Got the 6 photoperiod starts transplanted to their final home outdoor. Now Mother Nature gets to take over feast or famine while I’m in recovery after surgery. Hope wife will watch and give me updates so I can get her to water them when needed.
Been doing stuff...most of it stuff I really feel like doing, but it keeps the wife happy.. Been in and out all day...went up to the local to catch up up with a few folks, back home, made dinner, now I'm eating it..
Just do a light dusting of the top soil around the stem a few inches and try to keep it dry. I would wear an N95 respirator during application with a duster.
@NAGreengo It is very possible that is a soil/compost mite. I did not use that picture because it is not in focus enough for a good identification.
I believe the photo I captured from his posts is unmistakably a White Mite. He said that there are many of them which also seems logical that they are White Mites. Surely even a single Thrip would have left visible signs of damage as voracious as they are. Whatever the case may be, Spinosad will kill them.
At the end of the day, he has an infestation that he needs to attend to immediately.. And learning from seasoned growers is the best way one can learn to deal with it... And AFN is definitely the right place to be for that....
Personally, when I'm treating for insects.. I wait until in between watering, when the topsoil is dry, and lightly coat the entire surface. Then I bottom water for about 2 days or longer if it's possible. If it's not possible, I scoot the DE aside in two spots on either side of the stem and slowly water into those spots. Regardless, DE washing down into the soil can cut up larvae and kill them as well.
