Oh yeah! When I harvested I had a plate of roots grown right through the wick cup and spread across the bottom of the reservoir… picture, if you will a flat root “plate” with roots stretching to the wick cup. I pulled 90% of the soil out with the root ball. She was wall to wall!

Witchcraft...half soil, half hydro grow...lol

What pH did you run your res?

... Not worried about the smell right now...
My 6 plants in a 4x6 basement room started smelling quite dank by the 2nd month. I put in a 6" exhaust pipe vented out a 2nd floor eave. It was too noisy, so I upgraded to an 8" ACinfinity inline fan and 8" galvanized pipe. Speed 2 (out of 10) is enough now to keep the smell outside. It's whisper quiet. Part of the exhaust run is up through an interior wall, and that's the only noise, the air rushing through the 4x14 space between studs. I haven't put a filter on it, and hope I won't have to. If the wind is right I can smell it on the sidewalk out front though. Sometimes my wife complains when the aroma blows back into the house through an open upstairs window. I blame it on my neighbors, who are 3rd generation stoners. I often smell weed walking around the neighborhood anyway.

For a while I was putting 1 plant in a dark corner of the attic at night so it could get 12/12 light/dark while the grow room was on an 18/6 schedule. When it got well into flower it was smelling up the whole house, so now I have to keep it in the grow room with the others. I have 2 photoperiod plants in flower, and the rest are autos, so they're all on a 12/12 schedule for now.

My wife is unfortunately not a stoner, so I have to keep the sweet aromas out of the house. I married her during a period of my life when I was not smoking because I was subject to random pee tests. Oh well, she has other merits.

Question guys... anybody using regular tap water for your grow? And if so besides ph control do you do anything else to the water before you add your nutes or just watering? I dont have the space for a ro unit and bottled water is gonna get expensive lol

I use tap water and leave it outside for a day before I use it. I’m of the approach of try something and see how plants react.

There's a lot of variation in tap-water depending on where you live. Mine comes from Lake Erie, with 125 ppm of dissolved solids (not too bad, I'm told). I don't know how much of that is chlorine. It does go through a treatment plant. I think my plants are doing better since I've been using rain water, but that might be because I'm starting to learn what I'm doing with light, nutes, etc. I winterize my rain barrels on 11/1. I'll try and store a few barrels of rain in the basement for winter, but I'll need to go back to tap-water once that runs out. I think I'm using a couple of gallons per day.

You might need one of these to assess water quality:

I ordered a tds pen earlier supposed to get here Saturday, and I use one of the chlorine filters you screw on the hose to get my water the ph is like 8ish sometimes 9 so I drop it down to 6.3-6.5 and water or add my nutes, what ppm should the water be for regular watering?

If using tap water, test ph… if it’s from a town or city piped in it’ll have chlorine. Fill container and put coffee filter over opening and rubber band in place let sit for 24 hrs minimum then ph. If high or low use ph up and down to desired ph
