@Jpkindbud - Any luck with your DIY SIP'S? Was looking at Earthboxes on Build-a-Soil's youtube channel, but through life I've always fabricated my own stuff. Wondering how it went for you.

Mara - never sailed, but have always been on/lived near water. Mostly salt, but as of now I'm just puttering around on a kayak.

What is SIP'S?
Sub irrigated planter. Two 3-5 gal buckets nested inside each other. Bottom is the res, top is the medium with a “wick cup” at the bottom of the inside bucket. Bottom feed from tube on the side. I think there is a thread on here about them but it’s essentially an earth box. I’ll see if I can find the thread…

In the diy section I show how I made my first one but they are all over the internet… google 5 gal sub irrigated planter DIY.

This is the model I used to make mine, with a little mod here and there!
I use these cuz the plant will only take as much water as it needs and promotes root growth by feeding from the bottom making roots stretch to search for water. I feed with Megacrop in my water but this is a perfect system for organic/ water only soil.
