When they legalized here they had to lay off all the drug sniffing dogs since they can't be retrained. They are supposed to be replaced with dogs that were never trained to smell weed
I bet that cost is primary in some states not legalizing cannabis, I bet it is a mighty big cost replacing the canines all around a state!

Rather than replace the dogs, they just change wording... " I'm sure I saw you smoking on a joint" the dog confirms it........driving under influence is illegal anywhere

This state is great at spending taxpayer $. I don't know how many dogs there were but most stations don't even have a dog. Used to be that it could take an hour for a cop with a dog to show up and you'd just be sitting on the side of the road waiting for them to come search the car. I'm sure the more urban places have a few

I got 4 or 5 within a couple blocks of me. They take the cars home.

Laying off the dogs is really about saving $ from lawsuits. We're legal to possess up to 6oz. If the dog hits on weed, it's an automatic illegal search and seizure

Used to be...is the main part, supreme court ruling is that they can't hold you up for longer than the time it takes to do the original business, ticket, warning etc.......so the chit chat they try to do can be used to extend the stop waiting on a dog to show up....and is legal if you chit chat back......don't talk to the police, it's never in your best intrest.
