Grow Mediums The Coco Home Thread -- Calling ALL Coco Growers!!!

Yes I am... but I use root stims all the way up to the end of flower. Maybe overshot... what do you reckon?

I will be trying to adapt hydro knowledge into coco... or instance, this time round I'm upping the pH to 6.1 (+/- 2) during flower... gave them the first feed of 1ml Rhizo and 1ml Root Juice, Canna A&B at EC 1.0, adding cal mag bloom and carboload. Final EC 1.3, pH 6.0 without acid at all.

Happy camper here. I hate using pH correction

Me too but i have no choice, my tap water is @ 8.1-8.2 and GH Powder feeding take that down to about 7.4 then i use ph down to 5.8isch...

Justin, do you let your water sit 48h before using it? I have a rez purely to hold water. I used to bubble it to oxygenate and help evaporate chlorine, but found that to srew up pH correction. Chlorine would evaportate (ph-) but bubbling would increase pH, making me think it was stable. Then I added nutes a fed. Nothing wrong there. But often I did a feeding rez for a few day to a week, and 24/48 hours later the pH would be much lower or much higher (depending on nutes and additives used). SInce I thought it was all pH corrected, all "hell" broke loose and I couldn't figure it out. Took me a while to figure this one out

I just let the water rez sit in the dark, no bubbling or nutes or additives. pH lowers from 7.5-8.2 down to 7-7.5 in about 3 days (80L rez) ... then adding the nutes will bring it down, but the pH will only stabilize again 24h later, always increasing. So what I do is make up the feed, correct it, let it sit 24, slight adjustment and then feed. Since doing so, I've yet to run into any problems, everything is spot on and I can safely and precisely push the plants.

Heck yes, both of those root stims work great. IMO they are necessary when growing autos in coco. Really helps to get those roots started early on to increase feedings. I normally stop feeding root stims whenever they stop stretching in flower. But that's not to say that its not beneficial to feed throughout the grow.

Weird about your water groff, mine is just the opposite. My water drops about 1 point after a bubble for 24 hours, then add nutes and feed, and I have to use a ton of PH up to adjust. Normally only rises between .1-.3, seldom does it fall. After I correct the PH once it normally stays stable.

Sniper you asked why can you only use coco 3 times. Well its not exactly 3 times, but its a good general number to go by. The coco will start to break down. And depending on the type of nutes you use, the cation exchange will start to get worse as the coco breaks down. Im going to only use it twice, its not that expensive, and it comes in bulk.

My CANNA Coco came yesterday!! Been insanely busy but it looks feels and smells fantastic. I'm considering buying some chunky perilite to mix in like 1:3 ratio.

My take on the perlite Rebel is why put other stuff into the coco that dose'nt hold nutes and the coco is nice and airy anyway and drains freely, so if you use say 25% perlite thats 25% of stuff in your coco that dont hold nutes and any micros , well thats my thinking anyway and you would need to water every day as with just coco it gives you the choice feed every day or skip a day or 2 if you wish

im not right or wrong here Rebel it just my thinking mate :smokebuds::peace:

I use to do that, let my water sit for at least 24 hours... but i couldent see any difference in the plant so i stopped.
Now i fill up 5liters dunks with water, add my nutes, correct with ph-down. My water/nutes will cover 2-3days of watering and during that time the ph always stay correct. I check it every time right before watering.

Biggest change I noticed with running coco is it drains so well I no longer needed anything but square pots. It dries out way to fast in air pots and smart pots. Sure different regions will have different results but for me the coco and cheap old square pots work great.

Justin I don't think so my friend. Looks as if I can use it straight up so that's what I'll do.

I was interested in Hempys but turned off due to how you can't sow a seed straight in. I don't like that. Even jiffy cubes or whatever... no thanks!

This bag looks awesome... so will this stuff expand as well or no? Do only the bricks expand?
