Indoor Testing the eazyplug pyramid mini.

My tent will soon be all Night Owl for the next year and a half. One of the three Mango Isle was badly mutated like a thalidomide victim, just threw out its first leaf like some sort of weird alien appendage. wk11 - 1.jpeg

The other two mango isle are looking fabulous with good growth even at this stage clearly two phenos, one is going to be stockier with branches at the first single finger leaf node, the other will be less bushy with no branches at the first S node. Both also have very good internode spacing. They look like quality. wk11 - 2.jpegwk11 - 3.jpegwk11 - 9.jpeg

finally got the big Tre Lime Sorbetto down yesterday. I really had had enough of hoicking the big girl up off the floor onto my watering table. Would have liked to go another week but trouble was brewing with 30C heat and high humidity. Turned out to be a prescient move as I found the tiniest beginning of bud rot signalled by a single dead leaf.
wk11 - 11.jpegTre Lime Sorbetto - 5.jpegTre Lime Sorbetto - 6.jpeg

The tent is a lot easier now for a while, the other big plant one of my two Super Lemon Haze could also come down she looks ready but this is the kind of structure that really suits my growing conditions, small nuggety buds, therefore with not really much danger of bud rot I'm going to go maybe another week just to see what happens. Especially as I have the room. wk11 - 5.jpeg

However compare this plant to another super lemon haze from the same packet same age, looks about 3 or 4 weeks behind, one is finished and the other still has all white pistils. However I can see there's plenty of trichomes, and she also will have space to finish. Hopefully Night Owl ends all this type of annoyance. wk11 - 6.jpeg
comparewk11 - 7.jpegwk11 - 8.jpeg

The double seeds: Northern Lights is as expected small with small resinous buds, I have three more of these seeds and I really like the flavour of this, no gas, all floral with some spice.

Next beans going in in about 5 weeks will be my new Blue Power F4 beans from N.O. and maybe a Galaxy Brain, or a Redball from the latest drop.

Update: I just discovered that somehow a caterpillar just age the tip off my fabulous blue nerdz, it was growing like a beast even though it's only, was only nine days old. This has thrown the tent into chaos, I just stuck my last Blue Nerdz bean dry straight into the plug that I pulled the eaten seedling out of. Now I have to rethink everything, especially tricky not knowing how large the Mangos will be.

One Isle, had branches as the first node, that's the slightly stockier bean, the other had no branches at that node, both were topped at d19 and the first pair of branches were removed from the stocky plant. I was a little worried about this at the time, but I need not have been.

I have tried a new technique to curb the algae with paper towels, it has been working well along with my new hi K low ppm regime. I'm using GP3 and the NPK ratio is 2:1:3, to mix that it needs 2pt micro 3pt grow and 1part bloom. As they are now flowering I will change to a transition nute that is more NPK 7:6:11 to mix that requires 1part each of M G B. Meanwhile dropped my ppm to 400-600

I was taking off the towels before watering but now that they are going to require more attention I'm thinking of just letting the roots grow into the paper towels and maybe layering more paper on. While the algae doesn't actively hurt the plant, it reduces the effectiveness by reducing the overall volume. I'm hoping that without the algae that just by watering from the top that the nutrient will wick all through the plug.

Big Excitement: Arrival of 2nd Owl package, coupled with an extraordinarily lucky purchase of a couple of dozen large pyramids at mini prices means the Night Owl, has the tent booked out for a year and a half.

At the moment I still have this f**king white label Super Lemon Haze that just won't die. I got 8oz of tight stinky chunky buds that are just about cured from her sister plant, meanwhile this fluffy, but resiny plant is coming up to 14 weeks, and right now it's 88% RH and too hot to use the dehumidifier. I'm not relying on this plant and all the leaves seems pretty stuck in place but she has to be out within two weeks.

The replacement Blue Nerdz, for the one that got eaten by a rogue caterpillar is doing equally well, growing fast and strong. I know it can be a large plant and not wanting that, I topped at the 3rd node on day 13 and removed the first node branches. So I have limited it to four branches, I've been wanting to try this for a while on a known quantity like the Blue Nerdz.

You can now see the reasoning behind my desire do a few sets of grows with three beans at a time from a single strain. Unfortunately it didn't work out with Mango Isle F2 due to a grotesque mutation and I only had three beans. While they are both showing a very good structure with lateral branching with good internode spacing, one of them is very clearly well into budding while the other one is merely on the cusp, so it would have been good to have a tiebreaker.

Mango Isle - 2 (2).jpegMango Isle - 1 (2).jpeg

They have both responded well to topping and I do not really have much of a plan for either of them, I'm basically just going to let them grow and see what they do on their own

Mango Isle - 3 (2).jpegMango Isle - 1 (3).jpegMango Isle - 2 (3).jpeg

Next up in two weeks will be three Blue Power F4, that is planned for day 0 on 18th Dec.

Happy with the way the paper towels are working, I will try and come up with some sort of loose fitting hard plastic cover to do the same job and allow the roots to make better use of the plug.

I am going to try some of the latest research into nutrients by giving only about 60ppm of P while maintaining N at 200ppm during flower, with an initial overdose of P at bud set, which I have done for the past week, by giving them a very high dose of P which the plant will store up. Apparently, we'll see how it goes.

You could try heating up a thin sheet of kydex in the oven and form it around an old pyramid. The stuff pretty bendy and robust.Maybe overlap the seem a bit.

@wangotango321 that's a good idea, but it's way too expensive, however I will be purchasing some black corrugated plastic board, I have been testing out some shapes and it looks like it will work well, I just need to get the size exact.

Three Blue Power F4 came up right on time all the night owl so far have looked very delicate when young.

The Blue Nerdz has come up fast, such a reliable bean!

The Mango Isle are at 7 weeks and I am picking up some very exciting terps coming off them. They are both at 25in so that's a good size, they don't look like big yielders, but I'm after quality not quantity

It's funny, on the eazy website they claim you want as much air pruning as possible. They claim the newly formed roots that replaced the air pruned roots are better at absorbing nutrients.
The first plant I grew per what they recommended got massive. The second I blacked- out the bottom to avoid the algae on the bottom roots.I don't see much difference in overall growth or plant health.I know one thing for sure, moving forward these are all I will be using.Good luck on your grow.

I have to say that am surprised that so far I'm not noticing any difference that I can quantify either, you'd think that the volume of the plug is substantially reduced by letting algae build up yet doesn't stop big plants like my recent Tre Lime Sorbetto from hitting 35in, but it makes a big difference in watering because you don't have to wet the plug down, the nutrient can be poured straight in the top. I did consider cutting the roots off for the reasons that you said, and I might end up doing that pretty soon. After all this is the eazyplug testing thread! However I do notice that the bottom roots do die off even when they sit on the plastic tubs, so that might be enough.

I had the same thoughts on the bottom roots. My plan is to use 6'' plant risers to give them a little more room to die off.Prolly won't see much difference. At the end of the day these things just seem to work and i'll prolly end up going with what's easiest.Cheers.

d14 for the Blue Power F4, plus I have cut the plastic corrugated board and it fits well and appears to allow the roots to die off, we'll see how it goes on the B.P's. I was hoping to chop the mango isle early next week at 10w due to very high humidity (80%) as well as temps which kinda kill the terps, however looks like she'll need longer. Blue Nerdz is budding up but not yet showing any colours.

The new algae shields work better than expected, they allow the roots to die back but they keep the algae completely at bay, they also fit very well and almost self assemble. I thought it was going to be difficult to keep them all the same but after cutting the template it turns out to be quite easy.

First I cut the corrugated plastic to the right height of 160mm. I had a cardboard template which was 245mm along the base 160mm deep and the angle of the sides is 66.6 degrees. Because the strips are already the right height it was just a matter of lining up the base and tracing the sides, after the first side is cut the template is inverted to trace the next side, this makes all the pieces snap together.

Blue Power F4 are looking ok up top but they look like a hot mess down below. This appears to be not uncommon which is very disappointing but I am hopeful that they can grow out of this and produce a decent yield.
