New Grower Northern Cheese Haze - RDWC - Stealth Closet - First Grow Journal

I did stir with a SS spoon! They didnt feel slimy, let me go check!

EDIT yes slimy a bit!

Slimmy and smelly is usually pythium but may have been brought on by a chemical burn so just add a new dose 2ml per gallon of HydroGuard and lets see how they look in the morning. The last time I had roots that looked like that it was from a brass fitting I used in my top-off tank. Stainless Steel is ok.

Its a cheap kitchen spoon! So that might be an issue! In addition, I cant fix up the light leaks until I can add more hydroton when the plants get some height. So I am highly suspicious it is a light leak that caused it maybe in combination with the spoon.

Will add the hydroguard and check in tomorrow! Thank you tons!

Light will only cause algae growth not part of this issue. As soon as the plants get big enough they will shade the hydroton.

Hmm, I read in my research that if the plants are short and the hydroton a bit low that light leak through the netpot encourages pythium. Maybe thats not correct?

Here is a critical CBD and her roots covered in brown bennies. They look bad but I think they are in a wonderfully caring symbiotic relationship with my roots. The res smells like a wonder bag of fresh organic soil. Kind of like the garden center on a good spring day. I thought the first time I saw it I was in trouble. Usually like this from week 3 on in all my buckets. Feels weird but not a slimy sticky mess. Never had Pythian but imagined it like snot. And I’ve heard it smells skit different.
I run MC with hydroguard/ Southern Ag.

Question for MOG, I was running molasses as feed for a few runs but on another plant this run I put D-mannose in as food, plant didn’t die but was curious if you had ever tried other sugar sources for your DWC, got really bubbly and smells real good in the mannose bucket but not sure lol

And here is my NCH, tied down a bit today so no root shots. Sorry

How is southern AG? I read its cheaper and just as effective as hydoguard, but @Mañ'O'Green advised against it so I am a bit unsure!

Those roots do not look healthy to me?

I never added any molasses or sugars to my DWC.

I only recommend products I have personally run successfully. Botanicare HydroGuard is one such product. Southern AG may be ok a few people here are running it now and it looks to be doing the job. It is to soon for me to recommend it.

Not dissing you at all @Mañ'O'Green ! I appreciate the seasoned advice, Just talking out my decision making process!

Did not think you were dissing me. Now worries M8. I am not the final answer in DWC I just know what did and did not work for me. The most important are the things that don't work. Don't do that :haha:
