Indoor Tropical Outdoor: White Widow Max, AK47, Cheese, Great White Shark, Northern Lights

Had a brilliant idea when I woke up this morning!

As I've mentioned, there has been a fair bit of rain lately, which is typically here in this season.
The plants haven't flooded, they're still doing okay.
But I don't think it's optimal at all, and when I check them in the evenings, often leaves are drooping.
(Though not sure if that's too much rain water or just sleep mode.)
I think I've solved the potenial nute leaching problem, but water about the excess water?

So, here's my plan:
I'm using those soft plastic flexible pots, dirt cheap and light.
I've taken some un-used pots, cut down from the top to the base on either side, then cut out the base itself.
I now have two sheets of the soft black plastic, slightly rectangular, narrow width same as pot width, and length slightly longer.
From the long side of the sheet, I cut into the center, and in the middle cut a whole about 1cm ~ 0.5" in diameter.
Kind of a keyhole cut. I will then fit this over the top of the pot, sliding the plant stem base through the slit, fitting on the circular hole.
It should be large enough to cover the whole of the top of the pot, and at two sides at least hang over the edge of the pot.
Also, it has slight curvature, meaning that the rain water will run down off the sides.
Some rain water may get in from the shorter sides.
I can put these pot covers on when the weather forecast is for heavier rains.
But take them off when it's sunnier / drier / less rain.
It may mean that the very moist soil in the pots will be covered, so I'll keep an eye out for any mold or stuff underneath.
Though, it'll still be open on two sides, so there will still be some air flow at least.

I've cut the plastic covers already, but didn't have the time to put them in place.
I get a photo of one when I've got them in place.

What do you think of this plan?
It hit me as soon as I woke up this morning, after visiting wet plants last night.

Love and hugs,
Maria

Here's the cover thing set up, more or less:

I think this is going to cause another problem, though, of little air flow around roots.
So, may have to do some trimming on the first node or two.

Meanwhile,
Auto AK47
Can see a few crystals forming, and the floral scent is starting, too.

Great White Shark (fem)
She's starting to put out a few tiny pistils.
So that should be about 7 days after she went outside to 13/11 hr cycle.

Northern Lights (reg) 2
Still thick and strong, though getting a touch of light color in the top center, maybe deficient in something.
Still no pistils that I can see to sex her / him yet.

A little bit more rain coming down........

A big THANK YOU!!! to the Mod who changed the Journal thread title.

It was originally
AK47, White Widow, White LSD and Sour Diesel,
because that's what I was originally starting with.
Until... anyhow...
So now it actually reflects the strains that have successfully made it up to this point.
White Widow Max, AK47, Cheese, Great White Shark and Northern Lights.
And added "Tropical" so that any other tropical growers can use it as a reference.
The "Outdoor" stays the same of course.

Thanks Mod(s)!!

So, after that rain for a couple of days...
The two smallest plants had a bit of spontaneous LST.
Bent right down at the base of the stem.
The smaller Northern Lights was curvy bent,
but the Great White Shark was kind of snap bent.
Ouch.
I got some tape, did some taping around the bend and put in a support stick.
I think they'll be okay. But not at all ideal.

Sorry if some of the photos below are rather poor quality.
Very early morning, very cloudy.
Sun has since come up nicely. The girls need it!

Day 35 (Big Girls)

Auto AK47
Can see she's really starting to bud up nicely. Looks like a good week or more ahead of the WWM.

Auto White Widow Max
She's doing very well. Her flowering is at least a week behind the AK47, but still coming along well.

Day 29 (Little Girls)

Auto Cheese 1
Both the Cheeses are rather light / spindling looking, though healthy.
The first one is a bit more branched, maybe a bit taller too.

Auto Cheese 2
The second Cheese is not branching much at all.

Great White Shark (fem)
This poor girl was bent at 90 degrees at the base,
but the cola was still pointing up at the sky!
She'll be okay, she's now taped and staked, and the sun is out.
But, poor girl! Love those lush indica leaves, though.

Northern Lights (reg) 1
The smaller of the two NLs, this one was also bent near the base,
but not at a stiff 90 degree like the GWS. Also now taped and staked.
It did lead to some inadvertent LST, and the lower nodes have branched out a bit, as you can see.

Northern Lights (reg) 2
The larger NL is still doing very well, strong and robust looking. Leaves are 9-pointers now!

It was still quite dark, I am not sure if I saw a pistil or two on it.
Wondering whether or not to top it, or at least fim it.
Since it's a regular photo, even after flowering will probably need more space than an auto.
It's not super tall (yet), but if it is a female, in that sized pot, I wouldn't want her more than 100cm = 3'+ tall.
I guess if I do top or fim, it may further delay her maturation, but I should do it sooner rather than later...

She's also light green (not yet yellow) on the upper leaves near the inside, away from leaf veins.
Definitely some kind of deficiency there, maybe Ca-Mg.
She's going to be the next recipient of the egg-shell remedy!
(Note that the problem with the AK47 and WWM has not continued.)

So, a bit of damage on the two smaller plants from the heavy rain.
But, they're all still toughing it out. I'm surprised that they don't look drooping from water logging.
There is more rain and showers forecast, but I think they'll be lighter.
Even 0.5"-1.0" = 12mm-25mm of rain a day is fine, they need water, after all.
And as long as there is some sun for a few hours as well, all is good.

Love and hugs,
Maria
