Need to bump the feeds up on the SLH on the right yet again! Lol.

End of Week 6 of Flower

Buds are starting to bulk up. I'm having a bit of challenge dealing with very different nutrient requirements to both plants, however I think "microenvironments" in my tent have been big contributing factors. Essentially, the Super Lemon Haze has been consistently drinking and eating more, and has been harder to satisfy in general. She's been growing faster than the Diesel, but has also been showing more signs of stress. The Diesel has been very chill -- a little slower, but generally more lush.

For the past few weeks, I've put this down to strain differences. However, I now think my environment has been a culprit. My tent is a rectangle with a humidifier in one corner (closer to Diesel), with a circulation fan blowing humid air from near to the Diesel toward the Super Lemon Haze, and my humidity probe is pretty well center-tent. This means the humid air hasn't really been reaching the Haze, and I've developed some microclimates with the Diesel being adequately humid, but the Haze on the right always being a little on the dry side.

On top of the humidity gradients, the taller plant means the PPFD at the canopy has been higher as well. This means the Haze has consistently been drier and under more intense light pretty much throughout the entire grow. This supports a lot of the things I've noticed, such as it drying out quicker, burnt tips, etc. Anyway, I noticed this a few days ago and adjusted my light intensity a bit (basically brought the Diesel's up a smidge and the SLH down a smidge -- both getting around 840 PPFD now), and I also moved by humidity probe to be on the far side of my tent, over the SLH. I have noticed a bit of a positive difference since.

Lesson learned: Be aware of "microenvironments" in the tent, especially when it comes to humidity. Going forward, and especially considering I'll be growing more plants in the tent, I may start to regulate VPD in the lung room instead.

Anyway, the plants are still looking pretty good if I do say so myself... :d5: :smoking:

Week 7

I have good and bad news. The bad: I spotted some bud rot. The good: I think I caught it early enough., and fingers crossed it doesn't spread.

It was on a single sour diesel bud -- one that had been much taller than the rest and sort of on it's own. Yesterday I noticed a few of its sugar leaves were turning a little brown. I pulled at them and they were soft and came out. Inside revealed a grey, mushy stem. I cut the bud off and put some peroxide on the wound with a Q-tip.

I moved my humidity probe to that area, and sure enough, I was getting a high-moisture pocket in the tent. I spoke about microclimates in my last post and this sort of follows that -- I had been doing RH monitoring at canopy level, but this bud was a good few inches taller than the rest of the canopy. I've also been playing with fire with 26C, ~60% RH targets, so I've dropped by temp to 23-24C and will keep my humidity closer to ~50% going forward. I put a dehumidifier in my lung room to try to keep everything in the tent as consistent as possible.

Anyway, I woke up today and expected to see but rot everywhere, but every other bud is looking healthy. I've bent a few to look inside and I'm seeing healthy green stems everywhere. Either way, I'm going to anticipate the worst and be prepared to harvest early, but I'll remain optimistic that I'll see this one through with no more issues.

Last feed was 700ppm. I will be starting UV-A supplementation and ripening/sugar nutes in the next few days.

Cheers,

Some pics and numbers.

Environment: temp=23.6C; RH=52.1%
Lights: 840 PPFD, 12/12
Feeds: currently following a feed-feed-plain water strategy. Plants are getting watered on different days, SLH is drinking more resulting in the two of them being out of sync. Last feed was 640ppm and I will be dropping down closer to ~550-600 for the last 2 weeks. pH around 6.1

On a different note, I have a spare RapidLED 660nm red flower booster supplemental board kicking around from a previous grow. I was thinking about putting this below the canopy, pointing up, to help out with overall light penetration. I missed a few popcorn budsites down low during the Trimming Sessionz. Would sticking a red LED down there help out at all @Death The Cultivator ?

Welcome to tronGrows :toke:

This will be my primary thread for posting pics/journals going forward. Rather than starting a new journal each time, it's my intention to keep everything here and hopefully I'll be able keep things organized, especially in terms of links/threadmarks and what not.

I'm on a bit of a photoperiod kick this year, but I figured I'll keep all journals in here whether they're photos or autos. So if you've come for an autoflower diary, check back in January 2023, or check out one of my previous journals :smoking:.

I just finished up some White Widow and Gorilla Glue #4 by Canuk Seeds, and I didn't waste much time in getting some new plants germinating. So allow me to introduce you to....

tronGrows #5: Super Lemon Haze & Sour Diesel by Canuk Seeds

Stay tuned...

P.S. Tagging my buds @Suki813 @Death The Cultivator @Stilg7 :d5:

Start of Week 8

Alright folks, these are 10 week strains, but (1) since I'm using a far-right initiator puck; (2) I don't mind pulling these with a bit more clear trichromes than normal, and (3) the emergence of rot inside one bud, I'm planning to harvest these closer to 9 weeks. That leaves me with two weeks to supplement with UV-A and ripening nutrients as per the latest GH feedcharts.

I will ease off my nutes and PPFD over the next two weeks, targeting around 550-600ppm fertigations for Week 8; pH around 6.1; DLI around 36. Temps at 23-24C; RH at 48-53%. I'm also turning on a 660nm supplemental red bloom booster LED at the bottom of my tent facing upward into the bottom of the canopy, strictly as an experiment.
