Indoor tronGrows

Thanks pal! The pruning was fine -- I was a bit lazier with it this time around and tried not to over think it. I pretty well just plucked away what I thought wouldn't produce. It's a pain in the back though because the tent is tucked into a corner in a room in a semi corridor, so I only have access from one corner so I need to lean in to get at the opposite corner. Oh well!

I'm looking forward to the day ~20 prune. Last grow I didn't remove much of the thinner/spindler growth, i.e., the stuff you mentioned being less than the thickness of a pencil. Can you confirm/elaborate on this? Do you mean pencil lead or actual pencil? Anyhow, I just want to ensure all my budsites are getting adequate light and airflow. Last time it got a little too tight for my liking...

Thanks again,

tron

Actual pencil lol. Good branches, depending on the genetics, sometimes have striping that develops and you can visibly see it. Look at the older thicker branches and compare, the super thin or will never reach above the net or meet the canopy in general can be removed.

Think of it like art, the bottom prune is going to be immaculate looking with strong production.

You seem pretty in control of your environment but what you can do is defoliate anything below the net and anything in the "crotch" of the canopy below and slightly above the net. I don't like to defoliate when possible but those are areas I hit when necessary.

I know what you mean by leaves in the crotch of the canopy lol I’ll be paying attention to those for sure.

I don't. Do you guys have a picture as an example? Find this topic very intriguing

The circled portion is the crotch where a lot of fan leaves grow. That's the only option I defoliate to prevent micro climates from forming.

Hey @Death The Cultivator,

A few more questions on my final prune. Take a look at the pic below:

The above is the Sour Diesel. I have some branches on that plant that are barely making it to the canopy. As you can see here, this main growth node is just above the net. I have a node down just below the net (called ambiguous), and some lower growth nodes further below the net (called suckers). I'm inclined to remove the ambiguous growth and the suckers. But that got me thinking - if I do that on this branch, I'm only left with ~1 inch of growth tip above the net. Is that really going to get much bigger since I'm currently ~18-19 days since flip?

I'm wondering now if I kept tucking branches too late -- perhaps I should have just carried on tucking for 1 week of flower rather than 2. Another caveat... I think those "suckers" would have made it to the top of the net if the net hadn't ridden up along with the plant (the legs of my scrog are hovering an inch off the ground lol). I'll keep this in mind for next time.

An alternative now would be to scooch that branch into a square closer to the center and try to get it a bit more vertical. Then I could keep that "ambiguous" node.

Anyway, I'm not really having this problem with the Super Lemon Haze - that plant has several nodes of vertical growth above each square so it's a non issue.

I'm curious to hear your expertise on the matter, as I suspect I will be doing my pruning tomorrow.

Cheers!

So the rule I use when Scrogging is to allow 6-8 inches of a branch stand above the net. Looking at how short your canopy above the net is, I wouldn't go hard or prune much better the net beyond getting thin branches/can't reach the canopy cut off.

What is the typical length of the colas you produce that you would consider high quality? My DIY light could only produce around 18-20 inches where anything below that was larf, at the grow anything under about 30" ended up producing larf.

I'm happy enough with shorter buds so long as there's plenty of them :crying:

I do like your 6-8 inch target. When do you typically stop tucking your branches under the net? I've heard anywhere from pre-flip to weeks after.

I think I'll go ahead and remove the "obvious" stuff, and then maybe see about pushing that net back down a little bit and maybe get a slightly deeper canopy.

Cheers,

I finish around day 15-21 depending on growth. My personal grows, I don't often get to grow the same come repeatedly so it changes. Might have to lower it raise the net, add a second net, etc. Some of the landraces I grew were vigorous and I didn't finish Scrogging until the 4th week.

Day 23 of Flower

I did another round of pruning. I can't say I got all the spindly growth; pretty much everything below the net was removed along with the scrawniest branches out front and whatever I could reach in the back. Again, I only have access to the front and getting in the back requires very awkward and uncomfortable maneuvers. Hard on the neck is an understatement.

This might be my last two-plant SCROG in this tent. I definitely see the benefit of increased planting density and shorter veg times. Definitely considering 4 plants and no SCROG next time. I do miss being able to take my plants out of the tent and propping them up on a table to prune. Plus with the reduced veg time it seems like a no brainer going forward.

Anyway, overall they're looking pretty healthy. Here are some stats:

Temp: 24-26C
RH: ~58-60%
Lights: ~800 PPFD, drawing around 330W, 12/12
Nutes: Feeding every other watering; 800ppm for Sour Diesel; 1000ppm for Super Lemon Haze; watering every 2 days; pH 6.3-6.4

That's all for now. Thanks.
