Grow Mediums The Coco Home Thread -- Calling ALL Coco Growers!!!

Hey Reb, when those bricks refer to expanding in size, it's because they're compressed into brick form and dried to retain the shape. To expand them, you pour or spray water over them. It takes a couple of minutes to expand and then you have your coco fiber to put in your grow bags or whatever container you want to use. Have you ever seen those little Jiffy peat pucks that expand to start seeds in? It's like that only bigger.

im no expert on coco but i hope this helps

To expand the brick just add water!
Of course it has to be PH'd etc...

It usually says on the bag how much water is recommended to expand the product without soaking it.
Pour half of the water on and wait and then slowly add water and crumble the brick.
I do this in a large tote for ease of handling!

For my last grow i added coco to soil for some reason... Did work out pretty well but not as great as it should have been....

Instead of losing my question in my last post...
Here goes:

Since i am looking at building a drip to waste system i have been thinking about the pots i should use.
Do these systems work better with a small reservoir in the bottom like the dutch bucket system?
Or should all the nutrient solution drain out of the pot?

I am thinking that if the timer is not set correctly the pot could dry out between waterings.
The res would act as a slight buffer to counteract this.
Or am i on the wrong track here?

Hy guys, may a stupid one but can i mix some coco under the soil im using ? Thinking bout to pimp my soil with some perlite and may coco fiber ?!

44fab, that is always a good idea. It will help with drainage, and will also give a nice place for the roots to breathe.

I cross posted from another grow site which is a no no, but this is what I was trying to convey:
Recipe for easy coco grow
-6mL GH micro + 9mL GH bloom +1gallon RO water + 1g Epsom = tons o' pot. Add or remove water to adjust ppm. I shoot for 750 ppm in full bloom.

Edit: I got permission from a mod to share this thread - https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=55683

TONS of examples of people using the KISS method in coco, and saving a TON on all the nutrients they didn't need.

Since its drip to waste LL i would IMO have them in air-pots and remember coco holds water i myself water every day but i can leave them 3 to 4 days if in a larger pot mate or im on a stoney bender , lol , but the other way would probably work as well mate

theres no right and wrong at times as theres so many ways to grow this fine herb that we like to partake , lol , the trick is if your a new grower useing a strange medium just K.I.S.S keep it simple stupid, and you wont go wrong , hopefully, good luck whatever you decide LL :peace:

anybody used this brand of coco ?does the coco need to set-up and "cure" like soil after its rinse and soaking? I let my soil rest for 3 or 4 months after mixing ....
we're about to look on "the bay" for some cal/mag for coco.....all I use now in soil is molasses and epsom salt....I imagine molasses would be a mess in coco.....
I have some Grow More Sea Grow Bloom ferts 4-26-26...the 16-16-16 veg ferts had a cancer warning label, but now I think they resolved the problem,so I'll get some veg ferts from them ...if compatible with coco....
I won't get to start until late June or early July, but it never hurts to get things moving along in the right direction....
I've had a health issue to deal with, the reason for the delay, but my wife wants to buy me a LED light to grow under...as a get well present....I can't wait !!!

Isn't that a pressed block? I would probably rinse it myself. Your planning to feed with the exact system I'm wanting to use. I can't wait to see how it works for you.

First rebel thanks for the like bomb, lol , as for the bales or blocks of coco...

Don't mention it! Thanks for the contributions you made and continue to make! I found this Canna Coco 50 liter bag on my nute ordering website.

Would this be the best possible Coco to get for MMJ? Meaning pH'd and buffered right out of the bag?? I also found B'Cuzz Coco Substrate on the same website. Also the stuff Hereb4 posted... that Coco Tek... i found that locally for $6 and change for that exact bag/brick... I also found CocoNot... A Coco Alternative... But I think I should start a separate thread for that...

This thread/section has REALLY taken off... I basically just started this thread because there was none on Coco and I needed to know more... Now in less than a week... Truu and I have been promoted and are mods (well, I'm his Ass. LMAO!) and now we have this whole new section... Crazy how things happen huh? And if it wasn't for Thrips I would still be using Promix BX!! So strange how things happen! Anyway back to subject...

If any of you can help me decide which is the BEST to use straight out of the bag that would ROCK! thanks!! I'm thinking Canna Coco or the B'Cuzz as they are already pH'd and buffered... I think... well I know the B'Cuzz is... Not sure on the Canna Coco. I have to read more...
