Indoor Teetee's 2021 Monster Hunt

Day 32 - Stake out
Day 32.

Welcome back, this morning I was busy staking out the Night Queen and the Blackberry Kush.
They have been growing at quite a rate and loading up with heaps of potential budding sites, the side stems are growing fast, and the lower branches are competing for light with the newer upper side branches.
Now that the plants have passed the 28 day mark, I'm happy to start training them.

Here's the BBK...
large.61e1316e05572_Day32BBK1.JPG

I've pulled the lower branches out pretty much at right angles, kind of like a low stress supercrop in the hope that the nodes further down each branch point up and grow some nice fat buds.

Lots of leaf tucking going on as well, see how I've tucked in the big fan leaves from the main stem in the centre of the picture.......
large.61e131752d2ec_Day32BBK3.JPG

Careful positioning will let little branches deep inside get exposed to light and hopefully stretch up.
Rather than a sixth stake, I made use of the airpot post, but I'll probably put a stake there in a couple of weeks.....
large.61e13176cec57_Day32BBK4.JPG

From above you can see the final result.....
large.61e13171b7213_Day32BBK2.JPG

The NQ got similar treatment....
large.61e1317cb40dd_Day32NQ1.JPG

Again I pulled the 6 lowest stems out at 90°, and less than an hour later the tops were already turning up.....
large.61e131823bd3b_Day32NQ3.JPG

I might add little weights to the tops and keep them growing out to the sides a bit more.
Here's the view from above....
large.61e1317f6f617_Day32NQ2.JPG

She's looking like she's gonna be huge!

Here's the tent now, with the NQ at the back left, then the BBK on the right, with the Colorado Cookies in front.....
large.61e1317b35140_Day32group.JPG

The CC is short and bushy, so all I have done is give her a little clear out underneath, and a bit of leaf tucking to expose the tops.....
From above....
large.61e13179ba487_Day32CC.JPG

I have lowered her light a little, and upped the feed for all of them, so they are on a daily feed of an EC 0.9 pH 5.8 mix, House and Garden Cocos nutes along with their Roots Excelurator, Nitrogen Boost, Multizyme and some Grotek Cal-Mag.

There you go then, have a great weekend!

Stake work! Have you tried setting the stakes in between the dimples around the outside? I did something similar with bamboo sticks and a couple zipties. You won't have to disturb the soil or roots.

I don't think I've ever had such a crap start to a grow!!!

From the first batch of 4 seeds, planted on 2nd Feb, only two made it to the 25L airpots - a Night Queen and a Colorado Cookie. The Colorado Cookie died soon after the transplant.

The next 2 seeds were planted on the 10th Feb, only one survived rushed germination - another Colorado Cookie.... and only cos I dug her up.

The Night Queen seemed Ok after the transplant, but as you can see, by day 24 she was showing signs of heat stress.....
large.60658f03a9675_day24NQ.JPG

... not surprising as it was well over 40°C in the tent.... right in the middle of a brutal Aussie Summer heatwave.
Look at all that mossy green stuff on the surface of the Coco too. I think that was because I was not watering her to run off in the early days after the transplant.

A week later on day 31, and she looks like an encyclopaedia of Cannabis symptom diagnosis..... every leaf seems to show a different deficiency or toxicity.....
large.60658f1d59322_day31NQ2.JPG

.... and by day 40, it was clear she was not going to recover, so I pulled her out.
large.60658f3186d87_day40NQ1.JPG

... again, look at all that moss. I was well pissed as Night Queen is my favourite smoke. Plus that's 25L of Coco up the spout and a load of nutes.

The Colorado Cookies was a week younger than the Night Queen. She was moved from a Solo cup to the 25L airpot quite early too, and what with the infernal heat and the poor watering, she also went down. Here she is on day 17....large.60658ec946a7c_day17CC.JPG

Crispy, curled up leaves and more of that bloody moss. The newer growth looked a bit better, so I persevered.

A week later, on day 24, she was looking terrible, but bigger than the Night Queen behind who was on day 31 and on her way out...
large.60658edda67b4_day24CC1.JPG

On day 33, you can see she had grown a bit more, the Coco was looking better, and the new growth was picking up a bit. I'd given up on the day 40 Night Queen behind by now.....
large.60658ee8ec4c5_day33CC2.JPG

.... but in the end, by day 43, she had gone back into veg with no flowering at all, so I pulled her out as well.
large.60658eec9d9c5_day43CC1.JPG

So there you go.... Teetee fucks up!

Too many mistakes, I thought I should list them...
  • Temps up in the mid 40°C's is never good, especially with young seedlings.
  • Why must I insist on digging for unpopped seeds after 3 days???? In the past I had a 100% success rate, but I waited, sometimes for 4-5 days for them to come up. Disturbing germinating seeds is a big no - no.
  • I transplanted them way too early, and that affected their feeding.
  • My Bluelab Guardian broke down (grrr) so I now rely on my Bluelab truncheon... which has always read EC slightly lower than the Guardian did. When the Guardian read EC 0.8, the Truncheon would read EC 0.7..... grrr.
  • I wasn't doing a journal - I do really believe that regular posting on here can keep the enthusiasm going.... I just don't think I was that committed this time, I was slow getting back into growing after having a little break and I wasn't switched on.
Never mind, everything's a learning experience, but to lose 4 plants.... it's gonna take me a while to get over this!
Sorry about all the bad luck! I have ruined seeds by checking on them too. I've also given up on seeds after a week and have them sprout a month later.

Day 39 - Do we have a monster?
Day 39

Another week gone and the NQ and BBK are flying away.
The Colorado Cookie is refusing to stretch though...
large.61f0eadebd62c_Day39CC1.JPG

She looks healthy enough, but I'm not seeing much in the way of upward growth. Inside, she's bushy AF but because of the miniscule inter node spaces and wide leaves, there's not much light getting into the foliage and I fear she's using all her energy to veg out.

I decided to give her a good chop inside... leaves, stems, anything that looked like it would never make it through the canopy, and left her like this....
large.61f0eae0f37fa_Day39CC2.JPG

It's still early days, and the Colorado Cookie is supposed to be a 77 day finisher, unlike the NQ and BBK which are supposed to be 70 day finishers. Perhaps I'm being a bit impatient with her as she should be developing slower than the other two.

The Blackberry Kush is destined for great things, she is massive at day 39....
large.61f0ead8eba95_Day39BBK1.JPG

In contrast to the CC, she's got plenty of internode space, and all those side stems are spread out to get all that light.
She's grown so much she's actually pulled the stake out on the far right!

All I've had to do is move her to the opposite corner to get maximum tent height, and I now have her under a jumbo Skyline 800.
large.61f0eadc1fe1b_Day39BBK2.JPG
She's looking very similar to my legendary 20 ounce Night Queen at this stage.
:badass:

Talking of Night Queens, here's my current effort....
large.61f0eae292314_Day39NQ1.JPG

I've cleared out any useless vegitation underneath, adjusted the stakes, and she's purring along nicely...
large.61f0eae4142b2_Day39NQ2.JPG

They all get fed once a day, but they are pretty thirsty each time. The heat is extreme... always in the mid to high 30°C's , so I have put a few air circulation fans in to at least keep the air moving in there.

I'm sure there's plenty of water evaporating from the pots and from the plants themselves, so I have to keep on top of things here. I only mix up 20L of feed each time, and they drink it all up... the BBK and NQ take 8L each and the rest is for the CC.

This weekend, I'm gonna buy a plastic bin and mix up 40-50L at a time instead, and try and squeeze another feed in somewhere during the day.
That's it then, thanks for taking a look. Until next time.....

Looking good bro. :pass::greenthumb::greenthumb::greenthumb:

Day 44 - Is the BBK gonna go the full Teetee???
Looking good bro. :pass::greenthumb::greenthumb::greenthumb:
Cheers Mate, and by the magic of the Interweb, in the space of a few hours we jump 5 days forward to day 44.

Here they are as a group...
large.61f119f149af5_day44Group.JPG
The Night Queen is there on the right, and the Blackberry Kush on the left, obscuring the smaller Colorado Cookie.

Here's the CC, a shy but healthy looking girl.....
large.61f119ee5e430_day44CC.JPG
Still not much of an increase in her height.:fire:

The NQ is in fine form.....
large.61f119f4a41f6_day44NQ.JPG

Ordinarily, you'd think she's the big one, but there's also the BBK to take into account.
She's gonna be the star of the show....
large.61f119eb72e14_day44BBK.JPG

Look how all those side stems are growing up alongside the main stem.... hopefully they'll be fully loaded candy canes by the time she's done.
If she's gonna be anything like the 20.8 ounce NQ:deadhorse:, each stem will have an ounce of bud!

They are all showing early flowers, so in a week or so, sometime after day 50, I'll be looking at giving them PK13/14 and getting them on some Bud XL and Bud Candy for the final finish.

That's it for today, thanks for popping in!

Excellent looking updates! You made that CC look positively perfect with your defoliation. At least to me, it looks like a nice, round, densely filled in bush. Proper topiary.

I hope life outside the tent is going as well as inside.
