New Grower SCHOOL DAZE (seed to jar)live guide

Welcome to school daze.
This is the new growers school.

Here I'm going to be doing a live week to week simple guide to growing autos in soil.

Will be a basic easy to follow guide.
No big fancy words no crazy wild stuff.
Just a basic guide from start to smoke. Seed to jar.
We shall cover basic lighting
Basic nutrients
Show a lot of how to and when to with light hight , room conditions , low stress training , watering and all the rest of all the stuff I have picked up here from AFN in my short time of growing.

Feel free to ask all the questions pertaining to the week/subject you would like.
If I don't know the answer [HASHTAG]#iknowaguy[/HASHTAG] or gal

Well class is in session!

Hello again.

It's roughly day 70 now. Judging by the white pistils and drinking rate I know my gal still has a week or two left .
But now is a great time to decide how you want to finish!

Let's talk flushing and trich ripeness.

Let's start with flushing. A lot of lore around flushing. I believe even a few small wars were started over this debate lol.
@pop22 taught me that your plant needs those extra nutrients the most in the final days and that flushing only starves your plant.
I personally don't find any taste difference. Or any difference in the burn or ashes. So I feed til the end. I only flush my toilet. And adjust my feeds for problems.
Seen plenty of times folks misreading a plant and over watering via flushing and things go bad.
But every grower has a preference and style. Find yours and enjoy it. I have seen many plants switched to plain water in the last week or two and do just fine as well.

Now for the trichs and ripening to your desire!

Checking trichs is like entering a whole new world. Very captivating looking at all the little heads in the trichome forests.

IMG_20180703_003451.jpg

Checking them can be very difficult at times.
Which is why I use that little clip on macro lense I showed. I'm not stable enough for a hand scope. And my eyes don't seem to be the best for a magnifying glass or jewel loop. This works for me and I get to take pictures and show them which is always great.

Where to check the trichs can be a bit tricky too.
Start with checking the calyxes and the actual buds, not the frost leafs of the buds. The frost leafs always Amber first and usually early.

Depending on the kind of effects you are looking for from the trichs depends a lot on when you want to chop.
More Amber = more couch.
Foggy trichs = foggy heady high
Clear trichs are not ripe and brown trichs are dead trichs.
I personally like a good heady buzz. So I look for mostly foggy to about 30% Amber but always wait til most the clear is gone.
For a good couchy buzz more in the body
Look for 60-75% amber but I wouldn't try to push it much further than that. Then you get into trich loss territory.
If new to Canna and trichs. Try a progressive harvest on a plant. Harvest at different Amber ratios and find what suits you best. There is not perfect harvest time. Just when its perfect for you.

Cheers everyone. Look forward to more trich shots soon

have to agree on the flushing  only if its been poisoned or ph way off.as for the white ash clean black ash not flushed  ciggarette ash is white and look at the nasties in them,so i dont understand that theory.
trichs allways remind me of jellyfish, its a whole new world when you get up close :photog:as a rec smoker i also like the heady/early side :baked:
great show
:pighug:

Remind me of a mushroom Forest. Clear mushrooms with little heads. And jelly fish is good too. I see that! Lol.
Thanks for the support Archie
Really appreciate it!:cheers::toke:

Hello.
Now entering the last cycle of life is this beautiful little plant.
The yellowing of the leafs is a sign of that

So now is a critical time to keep close eyes on the Room humidity and make sure there is some air flow. Dying leafs can and will mold fast in bad conditions and cause a mess.

Feel very free to defoliate a majority of the yellowing leafs off at this point. Clean her up little by little until chop week. Week of chop I'll start to strip all the non frosty leafs off
I removed probably 20 leafs yesterday

The trichs are still clear and cloudy. But getting closer. Guessing 12 days ish.
Let's see how close I get.

Hoping on some last few days of fattening. But it's not likely at this stage but I am overly happy with the quality and plant size. Which is why I wish the buds were bigger lol

All that's left for the grow is just keeping her healthy enough to finish and defoliating as you get there and more so in the final days to make the load a little less on chop day.

Cheers AFN!

My grow is running almost exactly parallel to yours. It's been a fun ride along the way! Mine didn't turn out nearly as good as yours (I did zero LST, etc.) but I learned a lot and am gearing up for one more auto grow (currently soaking some seeds) this season (Sweet Seeds Killer Kush and Fast Buds West Coast OG).

Looking forward to chop day!

Just read through this as I'm looking to start out growing soon - the step by step guide is really helpful for someone with no prior knowledge of gardening. All the specific in-depth info on here is awesome too but a broad overview from start to finish is a brilliant starting point and it helps put a lot of the deeper stuff into perspective. Thanks a lot for writing this, and beautiful plant!
