ph meters are a nightmare lol ive got about 5 of them but i recently bought a bluelab ph pen, i know they aint the cheapest but i needed something that is proper accurate and this 1 also has a temprature compenstaion feature so i know the readings are 100% right, needless to say it gets treated better than my girlfriend lol

there are a couple of things to remeber when you have a ph meter and the general care of them which is overlooked by so many

1 if it drys it dies , always keep the tip of the pen moist
2 they should be caliberated at least once a month or sometimes weekly depending on how often they are used
3 after use rinse the probe in clean water to reduce any build-up on the probe tip, alos cleaning the probe keeps them accurate
4 place a few drops of buffer 7 in the lid of the pen for when not in use
5 if the pen is outta of sync let it soak in buffer 7 or plain tap water for 24 hours, then re-configure and it should work

etc etc, if you look after the pen you should get some good use it

hope this helps

Thanks wildrunner and seymour...

Im now realising how much of a serious piece of equipment this is..after reading that seymour makes me realise treated mine like shit... money is far to tight at the min for me to be spending anything over £30-40.. Ill be back to work in 3 weeks then I can treat myself, until then I need a seriously cheap fix..

I never knew anything about keeping tip in buffer 7, does this mean it will constantly in buffer and wet, so then if it drifts out you recalibrate to ph 7 again.. Think im having a blonde moment..

Need to find a cheap pen to keep me goin.. Ohh and get some buffer..

Thanks for explaining seymour, I would have gone and got another pen and killed it straight away!

treated better than your girlfriend lol.. I dont think id have a girlfriend if I spent £140 on a ph meter. she dont like me having another lady in the house as it is..

Ill have a lil look online see what I can find..

Thanks again guys..

Keep a look out on eBay mate, you can sometimes grab a bargain.i picked up a brand new & sealed £65 tester for £22+delivery..

iv searched high and low on the net and really dont know what ph meter to get, think im just gonna wait till weekend and go to the hydro shop. im just about managing by calibrating everytime i use it, levels still dont seem perfect but shes alive.. a lil pic update for you all.. its definatly got a lil problem but i think its just ph..

what you reckon?

peace..

Looking good bro!.

kept up the good work , some good karma sent your way :smoke:

You can buy the PH testers that come in a bottle and use strip of "paper" (forget there proper name) , There like £8-15 pounds here in the uk. my local hydro store greens sells them , or im guessing you could get one pretty much any garden centre etc..

Thanks addski:booya:
I am currently using the bottle type to ph some water to 6.0, then I have to calibrate my pen with the water. I would just use the bottle tester but it only go's down to 6. think im off shopping tomorrow, so hopefully my hydro store will be able to help.
Bad thing is iv been lending it to my mate too n I have really messed his plants up, oops... precise ph is definitely crucial with hydro.. Next grow will be using a bluelab meter.

As for the plant, its going mental!! Over the day pistils have quadrupled, your all gonna love the next pictures.. Im puttin the hps in there tonight, I just cant have it on every day.. Will this affect the plant having hps one day then cfl the next??

Thanks for all your help, only five weeks of help and advice needed lol..

Peaceout my brothers...

They can also be found in the fish aquarium section of a pet food store. Testing clear liquid is easy and fairly accurate, but it's tougher with runoff that's already got a brownish tint. You can run the liquid through a coffee filter to remove some of the solids and that will clear it up and make it easier to measure with the drops or strips.
