I'll give you a "Telling joke" It doesn't work when read!
A Scotsman goes into a bakery and walks up to the display counter and asks to the baker. "Is that custard or a meringue"
So the baker (also a Scotsman) answers back, "you're nay rang, it's custard".
You need to have an understanding of Scots accent/dialect to get it!
When the question about custard is asked, the second half of the sentence relies on that Scots accent understanding.
"......or a meringue" translates to in scots accent to " or am I rang"? AKA "or am I wrong"
The Scots mans looks at the custard and asks "Is that custard or am i wrong" would be the English translation an not at all funny!
