Just to chime in on the auto topping discussion from earlier….you can also just LST the plant and get similar results. Here is the same plant before and after training….

I don’t too autos. Topping looks to me to be about 2 day recovery time before the new tops start growing again. Not time I can get back with an auto. Training getting that even canopy is the way to go.

If you've not grown a plant before though, is there a way to tell that it will be Christmas tree shaped, or is it just a case of watching and if the top is rocketing up, nip it off?

My take on topping is that it's best used on the smaller plants would normally have one big cola as a main part of the structure.. You can imagine the production increase with topping structured plants like that in a sea of green set up. That's where I'd top a plant.
I can get a lot of colas by just laying one over in a earthbox or a larger size pot, if I want.
Topping is less work intensive though.

Shoot not a lot except a LOT of work lol. Running LAG1, Building out LAG2 at the dream farm and working on proposals for a 16x16’ LAG unit and a 50x60’ LAG unit.
