Nah, taking my girls out to a moster truck rally and hopefully get the 2024 fishing season started. It would be nice to do some quiet trout fishing by myself. It's been a while since I've reconnected with nature.

Man I wish I lived somewhere with decent trout fishing.

There is some in the Mad river up near Columbus but its all private.

Closest place I know of to catch wild trout is the river below the dam at Lake Cumberland and thats about a 5 hour drive from me.

And I lost access to the lake near me I used to fish, its full of 2lb crappies and 5+ lb largemouth, but the old lady who owns it has dementia. Last time I fished it she said she didn't know who I was and had a gun in her pocket and wanted me off the property.

We have lots of small brooks and streams on public property around here. As long as you stand in the water (stream/brook), its public property, although some land owners might not feel that way.

I thought the tributaries off Lake Erie was good brown trout and steal head fishing no?

That lake I used to fish, it was dug out by the DOT for making a berm for a highway in the 70s.

Took home 36 bluegill one time. That was a hell of fish fry.

I'd fill one of these fish baskets up almost to the top with largies and have enough for 2 big fish frys.

There is also a lake near me with hybrid striped bass

But I don't have a boat anymore (thank god, fuck that) and they are difficult to catch from shore.

You can get it shipped. $20 shipping though. I think they gave us a discount last year or the year before to cover some of the shipping
Shit better be magic! Thats $60 for the small size shipped to the states! Not sure when they started selling in US but too rich for me! I’ll have to stick with the “hope for the best” method!:rofl:

Thats even further than Lake Cumberland. I'm pretty close to the Ohio River.

It’s probably worth it I know here all the folks from the southern tier and PA come up to fish the streams off the lake all winter cause it stay open all year plus the fish get way bigger that come from the big lake

Same, I live about a mile from a really nice public access creek that has kentucky bass (kind of a hybrid between large and small and fight like a smallmouth), channel cat and I've heard tale of musky but never seen it.

Something I'm seeing around me that annoys me is people setting up businesses next to a public boat ramp / river access, then they start trying to charge people to use it. They can charge to park on their property, but they can't charge you to use a public boat ramp. State of Ohio doesn't seem to care, which bothers me.

I really enjoy fishing the river below lake cumberland. Its pretty swift. I'd just freeline a small treble hook with 3 of those powerbait eggs on it, one through each hook. Let the current take it and every so often just stop your line and feel if there is something there. I can't find any pics, but I caught a bunch of nice trout doing that. It was like 110* out and 99% humidity, and I was standing knee deep in 40* F water coming out from 150' below the dam.
