Grow Mediums First time grower, first post. In need of some help.

I added some sm-90 to the rez. Hopefully that helps. I have an aquarium heater inside the rez. I have it set on the lowest possible temp. Without the heater, the water would be much colder because it's in the basement. I still need to check the ppm. I'll do that here in a Lil while and report back!

Hey man, just wondering do you know the LPM of your pump? from the one pic with the water bubbling it looks as though the pump isn't strong enough? DWCocha is giving you all the right advice and he's the guy that taught me! I can only add to what he is saying :peace:

I'll have to check. I'm pretty sure it's 35 or 40. It's the eco plus commercial 1 pump.

Ok well I checked the ppm and it's staying about the same, maybe just a Lil higher but I think that's because of all the ph up and down I added. It's hard using that stupid drop and color thing but at least it's a back up. I ordered the calibration solution. That should be here in a few days. Also I looked into my air pump and it's 38 liters per min. Is that not enough? I hope my girls give me something useable. The leaves just look terrible...

Alright, now I have issues. Almost 24 hrs after rez change, my white widow is looking like it's going to die. The leaves are all wilted and hanging low. The roots look nice tho. Something is defiantly wrong. So I dumped out a gallon of the nute solution and added a gallon of fresh clean water and ph'd it using my ph pen. Maybe it's a ph problem? Maybe nute burn? Idk. The sweet cheese doesn't look too bad. I am noticing a yellow main vein on the top fan leaves. Also the leaves feel crispy to the touch(white widow that is). Not soft like they are supposed to be. I'll take some pics. Please help!

Hey buddy, that pump should be okay at 38lpm, I use a 30lpm pump for each bucket - the more oxygen/bubbles the better!
Getting your PH meter calibrated will make things a lot easier for you, hydro/dwc is all about reading the levels as accurately as possible and giving her what she wants when she wants, remember to clean/calibrate every week or 2 weeks. The crispy leaves could be a number of things, I had similar things happen to me when I would over or under feed because that causes lockout of certain nutes, but I'm not great at diagnosing - only been at dwc for a short while now and still learning myself. It could be PH causing lockout also so try and get that as close to 5.6 as possible :peace:

If I may throw my 2 cents also...
Dutch Master Zone is excellent anti-fungal with higher res temps and is fairly fool proof. My plant hardly used any nutes at all during the first 60 days and so didn't add any new nutes fr like 2-3 months except at res change and kept them low until she decided she was ready to start using them. Also, GH micro will stain the roots, giving them an appearance of browning. Definitely freaked me out. i swapped the Micro for Grow for a while and it all cleared up. I've reduced the use of micro due to OVER nitrogenization. Since the bloom started I've added Micro back at reduced levels.

Yeah root staining is common, I use Canna nutes and some of those turn roots brown - also had me worried the first time around! The only time my roots are white is when they're fresh and new then with time they get stained by the nutes, as long as you have enough oxygen pumping through the res it shouldn't be a problem :peace: TXDude i've never used zone or any product to fight slimes and nasties but that Zone sounds nice if you're new to the game and need a bit of reassurance, or even if you know your temps will run a little higher so good advice mate :)

Thanks for the great advice guys. Here's an update from last night. My white widow is starting to come back around. Her leaves are not as droopy and wilted as they were and have picked up a little bit. Also she is eating. Last night the ppm was around 370 and this morning it's around 344. Before there would never be a difference. The ppm would usually stay the same. So maybe that's a good thing? Sweet cheese is still looking the same. No real changes in her. I'll put up some pics later on today.
