New Grower First Grow Northern Lights in Homemade Grow Box

Keep track of your pH and remember, the new growth is the telling factor of where your plant is now. The brown spots on older growth are a lagging indicator of where you were. Concentrate on keeping new growth healthy and you'll be able to fight through most problems.

I’m too new to this to know what the brown spots are but the infirmary section of this site has tons of info on problems and likely causes/solutions. I’ve dropped in there a couple of times and there’s tons of info from seasoned growers. How often are you feeding? I’m growing in ProMix and feed every watering, approx every other day.

If the problem doesn’t subside in the next couple of days I’ll probably do a post in the infirmary to see what others think. I’m growing in Coco, feeding every watering which turns out to be every couple of days, once the pots get on the light side.

Thanks Archaic, I’ll definitely keep that in mind. The new growth seems to be doing pretty well, so hopefully whatever was going on is behind me.

My ph dipped down pretty low about a week ago. Water going in was 5.8 but the runoff was coming out at 5.2. I did a good flushing with distilled water & CalMag to flush it out.

Also, you warned me earlier in my grow about temps potentially getting too high in the summer. We had some hot (90°+) days as of late, and sure enough I was having a hard time keeping temps below 88°. I cut a hole in the wall between my closet and garage and hooked up an intake vent. Now I’m sucking in conditioned air into the box and can maintain temps anywhere above 70.

I would be feeding everyday. Keep your PPMs low and feed till you get some run off. This of course is if you are in straight coco with aeration. Coco is inert and every few days is not going to hold enough nutrients once your girl gets big. It will also control your PH fluctuation. Which I would guess is most of your issue here. Still looking good though.:pass:

Thanks for the input. I’ve noticed the girls are drinking a lot more lately. I’ll give daily feedings a go and see if things improve!

Update: Day 39

Plants have grown a lot since my last update. Starting to flower but have taken on a bit of issues lately. One was looking pretty sickly, so I defoliate the worst leaves, mostly to make myself feel better about it!

A lot for factors have changed and I suspect I made too many “extreme” changes at once. Hope these will make it to the end!

First 2 pics of the sickly plant, after some defoliation. Last pic is the healthier plant of the 2.

You cannot overwater in coco. You need to water to 20% run off every day.

As said keep track of your EC and PH and you will be golden. Colour wise of your leaves, your current feed looks perfect. Just need more frequency.

Update: Day 49 - now at the end of week 7. Been doing daily feedings on the girls, and they have really taken off. Still some dark spots appearing on some of the leaves, but overall seem pretty healthy. Buds are getting noticeably thicker by the day, and getting some nice frost on them!

Also, whipped this little guy up in my spare time. I’m going to give Dark Devil a go.

Looking real good. You have spare time? I am kind of jealous.

Haha, I hear you. I try to take time to myself a couple of nights a week, once I get the kids to sleep. It’s the only time I get.

The neglected one.

I started this seed with the other 2, thinking that one seed probably wouldn’t germinate. This one popped up almost a whole week after the other 2. Threw her in a pot full of .... wait for it..... Miracle Grow potting soil. Here she sits, out in my vegetable garden, getting fed once a week or so with runoff from the other 2 plants and watered between feedings as needed with tap water straight from the hose.

She might not give me much, but she’s a fighter!
