New Grower First Grow Northern Lights in Homemade Grow Box

Quick update on the grow... Currently sitting at Day 14 from germination. Everything seems to be going well. They got a good feeding today using General Hydroponics Trio with CalMag supplement. Did a little LST on the larger of the 2 as well.

Smaller of the 2:

Let them grow another 2-3 nodes before you start training, it gets hard to work when they are so low.

Looking good so far. Love the cabinet. :pass:

Interesting grow, will be following along! I’m new to the hobby and noticed you’re using the same ventilation system as me. It’s pretty sweet from what I’ve seen thus far. Can’t wait to see how things play out! Happy growing :pass:

So far, I love this fan. Money well spent in my opinion. I found the key is to have the fan intake at the absolute highest point in the box (that's why I have a smaller box on top of the larger one). Originally I had it sucking air from about mid-way down the box and was constantly running trying to keep temps down when the lights were on. Now it only runs for 2-3 minutes every 15 or so to keep temps down. Much more efficient.

Thanks for following along!

Update - Day 15:

Per @Damien50 suggestion, I took the LST cables off of the plant to allow it to grow a little more before training.

Other than that, I propped the air pots up on 1" Delrin blocks in order to allow more airflow under the pots (like a total noob I assembled one of them upside down, and didn't' realize until a couple of days ago). I was worried about not enough air flow getting under the upside down pot.

These plants are starting to smell already. Might have to hook up my filter sooner rather than later.

Update - Day 20

Had a little Gnat problem, but I (hopefully) have it under control. Let the pots dry out pretty good then watered in some crushed mosquito dunk on day 18. Most adults are stuck to fly paper now. Definitely seeing less than I did a few days ago.

Despite the gnat problem, they seem to be doing well!

Update - Day 26: plants have really put on some growth recently, and I’ve tried my hand at some LST on both. I think the color looks good, but they seem a little droopy. What does everyone else think? Do I have an issue or am I being paranoid?

The lights just came on about 15 minutes before the pictures were taken. Maybe they haven’t perked-up yet from the light?

Update: Day 39

Plants have grown a lot since my last update. Starting to flower but have taken on a bit of issues lately. One was looking pretty sickly, so I defoliate the worst leaves, mostly to make myself feel better about it!

A lot for factors have changed and I suspect I made too many “extreme” changes at once. Hope these will make it to the end!

First 2 pics of the sickly plant, after some defoliation. Last pic is the healthier plant of the 2.

I’m too new to this to know what the brown spots are but the infirmary section of this site has tons of info on problems and likely causes/solutions. I’ve dropped in there a couple of times and there’s tons of info from seasoned growers. How often are you feeding? I’m growing in ProMix and feed every watering, approx every other day.
