Indoor Dr. Babniks Botanical Garden - My AFN News Journal

Thinking alot about fertilizers these days.
My new idea is to combine Big Plant Science and Advanced Nutrients. Ofcourse, as the grow progresses, I may change my mind many times. A lot can happend in my lovely garden before the plants are meeting their final destiny.

So far, Big nutes stimulated the seedlings better than AN. The AN fed plants suddenly took off, compared to the Big fed plants. On the other hand, does a larger plant necessarily yield better? It will be interesting to see how the plants behave during full bloom. Also, the Big group may just be a little slower. Time will show.

I need to look in to population genetics. @derek420colorado do you know anything about population genetics? @Vlad The Inhaler and the Big boss agree that the genetical variation between plants grown from seeds represents a strong weakness in the experimental design. I agree with the argument, but my initial idea was that groups of three and calculating mean values would help normalizing the data. When I have completed the grow, I wil test my measurements by calculating the P value using Student's T-test. I now plan to establish mother plants (see prjoect http://www.potpros.net/forums/threa...n-landrace-and-sensi-star.55205/#post-1199853 ). Then I can do the experiments on clones.

i transplant with no problems at all as long as you dont disturb the root mass alot
I found that li'l pot for it. Is should suffice.
If I need a bigger pot in the waiting time, there will be no significant disturbance.
I am waiting for 2 plants to show signs of the end. All trichs are milky, but no amber and the leaves are still lushing green. There will be no more premature harvest with carbon filter in place.
Soon time to inspect photos. I'm watching Sensi Star break the soil. Wish I had a cam now. Time-laps of sprouting would be cool!

Ahh...problem solved easily.
Went through our boxes with growing stash. We grow more than my weed. Her Ladyship has her own collection of interest, I have mine, so we have collected things over the years.

Found a pack of disolvable pots. Now the germ is in a jiffy expanded in water containing Canna Rhizotonic and a kelp/amino acid sol'n. The jiffy was inoculated with Big Plant Science Myco Madness under the germ.

If roots penetrate the pot before the maturing plants are ready...well, they won't, God willing.

Ive read that young canna roots can sometimes have a hard time penetrating peat pots, and lightly scoring(with a knife) the side and bottom of the peat pots before planting works well.

:toke: Dr. B'- tell me what you mean by natural light... actual sunlight? If the temps are in range, that's a fine option, in fact you'll have to screen out some intensity for seedlings,... otherwise, 12/12 gives generally inferior results that I've seen,.. I'm an outdoor guy, so I've not run autos personally on this sched',...
Transplanting is fine if you do it right! Note that personally, for auto's I always plant direct-- a matter of convenience and avoiding unnecessary steps... Photo's I start in cups (sometimes 1gal pots).... As Trip said, it's all about not damaging the roots, and also the initial pot size.. many folks use beverage cups, like 24-32+ oz cups, something with some depth to it, and can be cut open easily; also, I put about 1/2" of perlite on the bottom so roots don't stick as much... I like the bigger cups, styrofoam (nice insulation too BTW), and let them stay in there for a couple weeks... when it's time, roll the sides in your palms gently to unstick roots, slice open a side and at the base part way, and it'll come out in a nice plug; just support the sides to keep it from crumbling,... roots should be sufficient to hold things together.... Beforehand, set the same size cup in your pot and fill in around it, them remove: viola'! - a perfect sized pocket to slip into-
:eyebrows: oooo, Nigerian landrace-- tell me more! A true Tropical Sativa? Some of the Dragon line has Nigerian Nightmare in it,...

>> 912GS buddy, 'fess up dude, whatcha got?! :smoking:

Help! @The Elvis @XxxAuto @witchyhour @Bailey @Waira @HashMaster @tripaholic88 @912GreenSkell @Vlad The Inhaler

I have a space problem. I have a germ of AutoColorado Cookie. I have the pot and the soil, but no free space in the auto tent.

There are 4 solutions to the luxury problem:

1. Plant germ in small pot and transplant. Danger: stunning.
2. Keep it in natural light for 2-3 weeks. Danger: unwanted stretching.
3. Keep it in the photo tent. I intend to grow photos at 12/12 from seed. Will an auto tolerate short days?
4. Keep it in the photo tent and veg the photos at 18/6 until photos have 3 nodes max.

Solution no. 3 seems the best for the ACC. But I have to change photo periode when the Nigerian Landrace sprouts and at the latest when the NLs have 3 nodes. The seed bank recommends this, as the landrace tend to stretch greately during flowering.
I'd go with No. 4!

I've tried these pots before, the roots didn't make it through at all. Maybe mine were low quality or old and dry.. dunno.. they didn't do what they promised tho.

DIY Instatransplant pots...worked perfect, and from now on will eliminate any old school transplanting for me. I'll be working this with large beer cups this winter for controlling regular non femmed seeds. (plant in pot is an Autoultimate)

Next outdoor season I will make all auto pots this style, except I will cut more slots and also drill tons of holes in the bottom.
