New Grower BillyWu's first grow - Think Different autoflowering

I met a grower who grows inside right through the heat of the summer in pots of pro mix. I'm shutting my grow down for July and August because of the heat.

He has a freezer and about thirty ice trays. Every day he fills all the trays and then empties them into a five gallon bucket. He goes into his grow tent and puts the ice cubes around the bottom of the plant on top of the pro mix. He says it keeps the roots cooler and slow waters them. He claims the plants thrive even it the temperatures in the room rise to over a hundred degrees. I really don't know if this works but he say it does.

Just another new twist. Ain't growing fun always something new. I'm gonna give it a try with a few plants in my carousel room. It never hurts to try. This old dog can learn new tricks. I learned this one from a guy in his twenties. Besides all the young guys think I'm cool. We got a new thirty year old female in our breeders group. Yup she is single. Maybe we need a pot growers lonley hearts club section in out site. Hey hey. Have a great mothr's day all you wonderful mother's.
makes perfect sense to me same principal of a chiller in a hydro system the res floods the warm root areas and increases in temp so i would see why the same would apply
mj can live through high temps its all how the roots temps are altered in containers there is alot more room to go deep for roots to fight the heat in nature than can be given in the manufactured environment of individual containers which high room temps can create a composter environment in containers w/ high heats
also slow waters while melting which would also be crucial in a higher evaporation induced environment and promote more even moisture ratio than from slight hand overwattering
usually a crop more than compensates for the price of the ac costs but for only personal use closing down might be the cheapest alternative if your stash is large en

I keep hearing the word "res", but I'm not sure what it means. I tried Googling it but it just keeps showing the word and not its meaning. My first thought was resin, but I don't think that's the case.

reservoir i think, the water tank basically though i dont know hydro atall

Ahh okay, thanks! I'll bear that in mind, researching hydroponics myself for a next grow. May invest in a decent set of Penetrator LED lights as well, depending on how cash goes and how well this soil grow goes :]

Just another quick question. As previously mentioned, the biggest leaves are curving slightly at the edges. What could be the cause of this? Too much heat/light, humidity levels too low?

sorry reservoir =res or water storage tank as mentioned
curving downward would like to see a pic if possible could be plants resting and all things mentioned could be also the dreaded beginnings of the "CLAW" or nutrient lockout that is why a pic is the most usefull

They curve upwards slightly at the edge of the leaves. Not a lot, but noticable. Have a look at the last pictures I posted and you'll see :]

Day 8 update

All is still going great. Gave the plants another watering and a bit of a feeding today too, again 1.5ml/litre of Formulex & 1ml/litre of Biobizz Root juice. EC 0.55mS (approximately 250PPM). pH is still the same as it was last time, 7.1 on the watering but not sure of the runoff yet. Saw no signs of nutrient burn from the last feed, so I thought I'd give it another weak strength just a couple of days later instead of weekly. Gonna see how it goes. If all goes well, then I'll do the same again in another 2-3 days :]

Found out what may be attributed to the leaf curling at the edges. It appears to be a minor case of heat stress, highly likely from my grow light being just a tad too close to the plant. I've raised it up higher to see if that'll rectify the problem.

Reason I'm feeding again is Formulex is designed for baby plants and Root Juice is all organic, so I'm hoping that with such mellow feed it'll take well to it early in it's life :]

Comparison to SeymourBuds' grow, his is 2 days ahead of mine but they're looking similar.

looking good bar the curling, i wouldnt feed so much so early but maybe organics are different i have no experience. they should grow fine without anything for the first couple of weeks, less is more with seedlings imo. are you feeding while the soil is still wet/damp? you might be slowing root growth with unnecessary waterings is all, getting air to the roots is just as important.

Nah the soil was quite dry. Bucket was substantially lighter and the edges of the pot showed signs of soil shrinkage. Put my finger in and it was quite dry :]
I'm hoping that the leaves will return to normal in a few days now that I've altered the lighting. If not, it might be magnesium deficiency.
