New Grower trim leaves during budding

p.s , its like shaving your pubes , if your a guy it make your thingy look bigger lol. Really Bob,have you ever done this? Please say no.:roflcry:

Your plants do look nice bud head and I don't discredit your results at all - but you're saying yourself that you're still new to growing... I have to ask, why you think everyone else will have the same results as you with trimming? I believe a lot of your success comes from good lights, good water source (clearly, no DWC issues) and the fact you're using DWC. I've never seen a dialed in DWC grow look like shit.. NFT and DWC if done correctly are some of the most monstrous hydroponic methods.

You're advising others to defoliate, but what if they don't share the same environmental conditions as your plants? Do you believe they'd get the same results? I do not. There's more at play here than just your defoliating that gives you the buds. I agree with you when you say "experiment, see if it works". In my experience with ProMix and FFOF on separate occasions defoliating was a pretty terrible experience that definitely hurt my end product. When I defoliated in a Hempy bucket, I got more penetration to lower buds and increased my overall yield (I believe), either way the results were superior to my ProMix and FFOF defoliated plants..

Your plants are clearly very vigorous going into the bloom phase and that's a huge factor as to why they bounce back from the defoliating so fast. As well, if you defoliate, you have to do it early (taking just a few leaves) and continue until you're comfortable - but don't start in the middle of veg or the start of flower, etc etc. Getting the plant ready for the stress is much the same as hardening a plant off for outdoors, IMO. There's a lot of things in play here - but your setup is a big reason as to why defoliating "works" for you IMO.

Again, If you're comfortable in your seed stock and not worried about a potential yield loss (possible gain), then go ahead and experiment - but don't say "I got this advice from ____" experimenting is trial and error.

I remember last year I trimmed a bunch of leaves shortly after it started budding and kept up the trimming a every couple weeks (mostly yellow leaves by then) and my bud did not grow any bigger than it was the entire time! Huge disappointment I think I got like 2 and a half ounces dry off of 5 six footers but it was bag weed. Just my experience with trimming:2cents:

bummer if you only got 2 oz off of 5 six footers ...sounds to me like you trimmed it all away !:bong:

this guy explains it better then I can
http://youtu.be/wY3K56mgo6Q

theyre photo plants though totally differen,t theres no recovery time with autos, you cant keep them hanging in veg till theyre ready for flower
and hes trimming & HSTing for more sites during reveg not defoliating during flower. 2 different things

the first ones I did I did outside in airpots ...same thing plenty of new buds and bud growth everytime I trimmed (every 7 days or so)...that's all I can go by but this is a debate that will go on forever untill one try's for themselves
everyone says how can you tell people to do this and do you think they'll get the same so on and on ....but I don't see them saying "I don't recommend it however if it works look out the harvest could be big!"
a side note: why is it whenever someone ask's this question about trimming and the guys post pics of monster plants that were trimmed to help give a positive answer no one still will belive them...you guys always try to scare everyone.... I've already seen plenty of non-trimmed' plants that didn't have much total bud on them... not the kind of grow I personally need, I need volume, quantity, and quality if I'm going to spend my time I might as well try to get the most I can out what I'm working with ,,whatever you choose 'bud luck' to all!

okay don't trim .......you guys will never be convinced no matter how many pictures or videos you see ...but for me I trim!

bud head no one is being confrontational other than you, youre ignoring all the information posted and becoming defensive with no attackers.

say why you disagree with it if you do but not just that thats the way you do it. that doesnt lend any weight to your argument.
anyone can do what they want but this is what you should do as a rule, youre only starting out yourself you said but you seem to be sure that you know better than everyone regardless. being locked into an opinion without reason isnt a good way to learn or improve.

no offense meant, your plants look lovely as lots have said but thats what works for you, no ones stopping you from doing it that way.
this is about what will work for the masses across all setups and it has scientific reasons to back it up.
this is a forum to teach the best ways not just accept all possible ways as the best possible way. thats just coddling and helps no one.

This guy also has a how-to video where he's trimming immature weed... LOL I *finally* recognize buds that aren't really done, but kind of look done to a noob like me. :crack: But anyway, photosynthesis, as you all may or may not know is the process of converting sunlight into energy i.e. food for the plant - and it only happens in the LEAVES. The buds don't need more sunlight, they are produced from the energy/food that the leaves produce, and the leaves also serve to feed the plant their own nutrition if you let the plant mature all the way. So in theory, trimming like that guy did in the video is like lowering the horsepower out of your motor. Or putting the girls on a diet when you want them PLUMP and delicious.

Your plants look good, bud head, nice and plump so you definitely did something right! :booya:

that's okay I'm not offended ..I thought I did give my reasons but no one want's to hear them ....can't give the scientific facts only the results I see... but we can end it since I'm the only one around here that trims ...guess I learned it's really not a good thing to do ....unless you want to start a debate .(LOL)...guess I found out all I grew was zero weed, zero buds, zero thc, zero appeal, zero size, what a waste of my time ! I'll probaly cut my plants down now and start over..glad I looked into this page no more trimming for me!

now the only question is 'what do I do with all this bunk I grew?'
