Lighting The new DIY Section

Just got my bulbs in, sob had to take out the headlights to get them installed but they are in and bright bright bright! What scares me was the temps of the heatsink on the little driver. It was very hot.

Something I immediately thought about when buying them was the wattage. I think the stock bulbs were around 60w each and the led was 28w each. For hybrid use this should have an impact on battery life. Have you considered doing the interior lights as well?
Sorry I missed this somehow. I have considered replacing the interior lights as well as the reverse light. Just haven’t taken the time to find out what’s available.

The new V2 Qbs from HLG are more efficient than even the logic pucks let alone "the auto cob."
Thanks for chiming in

There is a big difference between efficiency which is most often calculated based on ppf or total output and ppfd which in most people’s eyes the most important. Light at the canopy. The small efficiency gain is so minimal that adjusting one cob down 1” increases the ppfd higher than the gain watt for watt. Secondly without adjusting the cob that 1” adding the reflector to the autocob gives a higher ppfd and this is across the entire coverage area. Efficiency and delivery are 2 very different things with 2 very different result.
V1, v2 whatever versions come out I’ll sell what does the best and what gives the best results no matter what it does to my business. Cobs, boards, pink leds whatever does the best. I’m still selling autocobs and the sales are increasing each day for a reason.

Just a hybrid nothing fancy like a Benz. Only complaint I have read is some truck drivers have said they are so bright their low beams are being flash by oncoming vehicles.

It’s been a few months since I installed the new headlights. I now have to drive with my hand on the high beams. Just about every other car flashes me. I guess the brightest isn’t a good thing.

You're on the right track man, and what you say is spot on. I have an Apogee too, and can confirm what you say, kudos
This is not a game for simpletons and waffle

I have spoke a lot about efficiency. This was when comparing 20-50 % efficient lights. It’s like splitting atoms at this range. My efficiency talk was always to help people understand you can’t take a 100w light at 20% efficient, an 80% efficient driver, a tinfoil hestsink and claim it’s the next 1k hps replacement.

Part of it is people tend to get stuck on one factor. Efficiency, efficacy is just one factor and not even the most important. Like asking how fast a car is. Shake my head and ask how fast at what? 1/4m, 1/8m, 0-60, top speed.

The autocob is aimed at wasting less light, the ability to put it where you want the light, maximize the ppfd by individual adjustment and to allow people to build up a space with the above benefits at their own pace. That outweighs any efficiency gain on any other light sold. So when someone says buy this becuse its more efficient really does an injustice.

Man its boring to have a conversation with you, there's nothing to disagree about haha, I even agree a "hestsink" won't cut the mustard :haha:
Perhaps if we discussed the Bactrian Kingdom and how it influenced the terracotta warriors of mercury Qin :crying: check it out

Yep, a lot of factors interrelated, complex stuff, the quantum meter only made it even more inexplicable. Have you tried to measure DLI with the Apogee?
To have an apple to compare with an apple, I decided to use efficacy as an yardstick, because most of the other parameters I know is stable in my setup and or I can control them to some degree if necessary. Lowering total power is tconsumption is my priority, keeping temps down especially in summer, and of course cost.

Oh I have one of your autocobs so dont think of me as a hater. I prefer the qbs multiple sources of light overlapping each other over the single spot cob with light dimishing further from the center. Anyway thanks for that 4000k autocob.

Text is always tough. A personal opinion or preference is great. The efficiency talk I always read about sort of gets under my skin when most that speak about it don’t have a clue what it means. So any chance I get to vent I do. Nothing personal at all and sorry if I came across to hot. Afn hasn’t had this much action since it’s development.

Well you have stepped up the game in grow lighting. I see your lights running this forum already. Crazy how your 50w cob cant be closer than 26'' without razor edges and bleaching. But a 240w needs to be kept at 16'' keep running what you have! Its an awesome light for all around growers. I too am sold on cobs finally. Just be after holidays and I will be placing an order.
