DIY The Ultimate, All-in-one, stealth DIY Micro Growcab

Oh, wonderful, now you have my head in overdrive on two things.

Size. That's easy, standard kitchen cupboard is 60cm wide so if you think something that wouldn't be out of place in a kitchen then there's your answer. Depending on layouts, you might even be able to splice into any extraction above the cooker.

Sound. Now that's where the fun starts. Straight away I think insulation panels since they can be painted white or take rockwool and hold that in place with drywall or mylar. Even just an air gap between inner and outer walls can cut sound significantly, same as an "egg box" surface will help cut sound due to it scattering the sound waves (think of the walls in a recording studio).

When looking at the "insulation" idea, it doesn't have to be a thick layer, think of how much of a difference a foam underlay makes with a laminate floor as an example. Then we have to look at anti-vibration mounts for any and all fans, rockwool around any ducting to deafen any noise from air blowing through it, and then, in theory, you have a cabinet you could put in any room and nobody would have a clue what it was for.

yeah was thinking to use reflective insulation rather than mylar/paint on this one for that reason(plus insulation ofcourse)

Some say that painting white will work better than the "reflective" surface as far as scattering light goes, but some of the most noise will be from the fan and any ducting. That's why I say wrapping any ducting in rockwool will deafen any noise from airflow, and an anti-vibration mount is easy as you mount the fan to a wooden plate, sit that on a lump of polystyrene and that's it as the polystyrene will absorb any vibration and therefore prevent any transmission of sound due to the inevitable vibration every fan gives off which will be transmitted through any fixed mounting. Cheaper than spring mounts with rubbers, which is obviously another option for the fan.

I mean, that's where the most noise will come from and no matter how well the outside of the box is "soundproofed" the fan is likely to kick something off so that's the biggest one to look at imo.

(See, there are things learned from putting things together on Vanguard Class SSBN's that can be used in "normal" life!)

I like the general idea from a build standpoint. Outside of that, it's really all going to be about the box you eventually decide to go with. If you aren't building from scratch, there will be compromises necessary.

If I were to build I'd basically do the same three compartment set-up you sketched out... I like the cable wall, but I'd want one side very accessible... an easy to remove panel, or maybe just open framing and a grate of some sort...

I used flat white paint in my semi-custom micro box and it works. I've used mylar and other foil like reflecting materials, and I prefer the white. If my yields weren't sufficient I might look at it differently.

If I were going to put this in my living room, I'd also be working to make it as quiet as possible, but you can really chase your tail here... I'd think more along the lines of "hide in plain sight." Buy an Aerogarden and set it on top or right beside the cab... grow some herbs and tomatoes. Noise and smell explained.

this is gold

i hear ya

compromise sucks
hidden in plain sight for sure (seen that dude on icmag or somehwere a while back with the fishtank cab got me thinking)

on the flat white, in my expereience it gets the got done nicley so i agree as well

im starting to wonder if a tent in a closet really isnt better...micro is alway extra effort and more compromise

I like the white because it doesn't tear and when it gets dirty you wipe it down, when it gets too bad you paint it. I built my cabinet and I can hang things anywhere, screw things anywhere and I can repair anything that breaks.

I have a 2x4x5 tent in a closet. with 8" carbon exhaust running into attic. barley any sound . My ceiling fan make more noise that the grow closets. also, with two 6" inch circulation fans , running 4 autocobs 24/7 you cant hear them running unlike alot of burples and other lights, not to mention the reduction in heat running these lights. In your private closet, who is supposed to be in there.? as for inspection, do they or have they ever opened your closet door?. Do they give you notice that an inspection is underway?. I can tear down my tent in a matter of minutes. Another thing to concider...How much you smoke?.. I cant get away with one plant producing just an ounce. every "68" days or two plants making 3 oz. etc. for time and effort, I got to get the best quality and yield every bean I pop.

i prolly need about an ounce a week so 8sq ft of flower but anything to cit donw the weed bills is good, plus can be duplicated

diy led for the win, indeed!

as far as noise goes in the past if fucked aroudn with a few options and always found it nesesary to blow into carbon scrubber and build a noise canceling box around the fan with the noise canceling isulated ducting (thats the stuff wropped in rockwool) to be quiet so ill probably build an all in one fan/carbonfilter/driying box

ive been toying with the idea of using some garage storage shelves and wraping it in mdf
