Grow Mediums The Coco Home Thread -- Calling ALL Coco Growers!!!

Hey Truu, I can dig it.....:five: Yo Groff...:rofl::rofl:what a tool if i would have seen that before i spend my money i would have seriously thought twice, but i cant take nothing from him he does have some very good products but he should never speak for them ....sorry that made me lose my VIBE

Just a few observations to note.

1. The three plants in 2 gallon plastic containers are bigger than the 2 gallon Smart Bag plants. I do think the tap root vertical growth is important; maybe, more so, in coco. The plastic pots are tall and the tap root has more freedom to grow and then root out. On the other hand, the dirt bags/smart bags are broad and tap root is restricted by about 1/3 or more of vertical growth. That is probably why the outdoor plants can be monsters--tap root is free to grow.

2. At four weeks I watered to run-off. Looks like it takes a little bit shy of 2 quarts to get a good run-off. I did not water to run off, until now, at four weeks. Keep coco lightly watered while young trying not to encourage stunting and to keep the roots searching. Looks good so far. Not completely blemish free, but, good overall health.

Absolutely Alan! I agree with you in all accounts, except that you really have to be weary of pheno's when running autos's. they can be so distinct that makes you think X-pot is better than Y-pot, or nutes or whatever... Don't be too quick to conclude.

I am 100% with you on the tap root theory. I think I myself have posted the same findings. In the future I will experiment with 2x10L sacked airpot vs 1x20L

That is exactly why I am reluctant to try AN. Not saying it ain't good... Just saying it hinders my mojo. Their entire marketing plan yells "snake oil" to me. Of course it's not, but neither is their hype

Groffuwiwi. Agree to much hype and I go the other way. Just the facts - please and no hyperbole.

I have a question. Has anyone experienced canoeing/taco-ing when growing 100% coco. I have a slight heat problem from time to time thru the day. Not a serious one but up to mid-eighties. Add to this fans all over the place.

Wonder if constant air flow collaborates :stir: with the heat to cause it. Otherwise, growing just fine.

The other minor issue is random yellow spots--not many just here and there. A few yellow nute tips too. They drink quickly and I am not surprised by the tips. It is not necrotic just like a yellow florescent paint with bush has been applied.

I have seen such before in hydro set-ups.

Indeed, it appears to have been the fans. Moved them around. And may add more cal/mag.

Very true... but the fact is that many top growers swear by it. I dont mind them calling things "Jungle Juice" and "Rhino Skin"... 'cmon, its weed we're growing, so there's got to be some goofyness somewhere :roflcry:

Marketing is ... well... why try to word things when good 'ol Bill nailed it for eternity?

Its when then get into the science that they shoot themselves in the foot, imho

My quarrel with AN is that they are just so over priced for the same thing you get with most other brands lineups. There's more basic lineups out there that will do the same thing at a better price. I can't say AN is bad, as they do have some good stuff and I use a couple additives of theirs. But the price is just ripping people off royally. I would argue some of their products are at 200% profit.

Has anyone growing in coco found it necessary to increase cal/mag when using RO water. That is beyond the normal range to get the PPM's up.

Or any Canna Coco nute users who have found it necessary to ramp up the cal/mag.

Yeah for me AN is like that girl friend who everytime I go around her we get in trouble but I just can't leave her alone I love that dirty foot girl

I know you guys think AN is hype and the pH perfect are bullshit but I have used them for over a year now and with no added Cal/mag and never owned a pH meter and still don't. I've changed grow mediums twice in the process with no problems at all except for me under feeding. Now that right there speaks volumes to me. And after all that I have no problem paying for something that IS as described. And they aren't any more expensive than Fox Farms, botanicare, or any others really.

Just my two cents...
