Grow Mediums One waterfarm, 2 autocobs, and a 150hps. Double Grape!

Stupid question here. What part of the plant is a sucker to you? Are you talking about the tops?

Not stupid at all. I actually heard the term from my Grandfather, when I was a kid. He had a few fruit trees, and I always helped him "trim the suckers", meaning the lower sprouts, that would never reach the sun, or produce any fruit worth having.
Funny, I haven't thought of where I first heard that term before. Grandpa would have been 110 this year. He never would have been OK with growing weed, but, somehow, I think he's proud. Lol.
And that's the story!

Do the same with tomatoes and tobacco. Topping and suckering tobacco plants along with pulling Baku worms was a job I was happy to get so I didn't have to cut when the time came ..haha

Did some defoliating tonight. Took all the large bottom fan leaves, and culled most of the low suckers. I didn't want to go overboard, but I haven't seen any negative effects from doing this to photo period plants. I've seen quite a few excellent auto grows, where some serious pruning went on.
So I hacked her up a bit...
Few pics after the deed was done, and one bad shot of the two COB lights, and my trusty HPS150.

Thanks for looking.

I should have added that the plant is 10" above the hydroton, at this point. Very glad I did the aggressive LST, as the plant would be at least 18" by now, if left untrained. My tent is only a six footer, and with the Autocobs, I need all the headroom I can get. Currently, the lights are 26" above the plant. She seems to be tolerating that so far. It may actually help that the HPS is centered over the plant, and the Autocobs are slightly offset. Not sure on that one, but it makes sense in my stoner-MacGyver brain...:baked:

Day 23
She's growing up fast. Roots are solidly in the res water, and the plant is drinking about 1/3 gal per day. Still LST like mad, before the branches harden too much. I kinda bent her one way to begin, and now am trying to train her back on herself, to get a nice spread, centered above the waterfarm, but still keeping her short. I usually fuck this up, and run out of time before the branches get rigid, so we'll see if I can pull it off this time.
Plan is to go another week, and then prune out all the suckers, and a few of the gigantic first fan leaves.
Any tips on timing that are welcome.
Everything has gone so well with the basic GH feed ratio, I plan to just follow their recirculating feed program, but scaled back to 1/3 strength, once she stops stretching. Looking at the numbers of the Flora bloom, I am thinking of just using it like I would Liquid Kool Bloom. The ratio is close, at 0-5-4 for the bloom, and 0-10-10 for LK. If I just add a extra ML/gal of bloom, that might be a decently close bloom booster.
Then again, I can always fall back on the trusty Lucas ratio, which is where the GH feed schedule lands for weeks 9 and 10 anyway.
This is the stage of a grow where I hear the whispers in my head... "Don't fuck up". Lol
Thanks for looking, input always welcome.

How many times a week are you feeding with nutes? How many times a week are you watering with plain ol water? How many times total are you feeding with nutes & or just plain ol water? If you could be specific that would be greatly appreciated. I also have a double grape going and using maxi series gro/bloom powder w/calimagic & koolbloom powder. Maybe you can help me fill out the gen hydro maxi series grow chart .....Really enjoying your thread and subbed. Anyhow thanks in advance-I am using pro mix hp with 5 gal smart pots-2 auto cobs 3500k- 2x4x5 tent-was also wondering when is the cutoff point if any for using neem oil..thanks again -happy growing:pass::cheers::bow:

Thanks for dropping by!
As for your questions, I'm not sure how to help you, other than to advise being very gentle with the Maxi series. They are very strong, and you can cook things pretty quickly, with just a seemingly small mistake.
I'd ditch the Kool Bloom powder as well. Really, really easy to blow it with that stuff!
Since I am running hydro, nothing really translates too well to your grow.
I generally suck at soil growing, but I have had some success with it over the years. Light feedings, at each watering are better than big doses, in my opinion.
Sorry I couldn't help more. The Maxi line is good stuff, I just haven't run it in 7-8 years.
Good luck!

You're not a fan of the Kool Bloom powder? What's the issue with it? I'm just curious because I'm planning to try DWC hydro for the first time soon with GH Flora series and the full line of supplements. What's your thoughts on GH Flora and their line of supplements?

Thanks for posting!
I really like the Flora lineup. I've used it off and on since 2010, with great success. I've had bad grows with it, but that's me, not the nutrients. I am not opposed to Koolbloom powder, but it can be a hand grenade, if overdone. I wouldn't personally use it on an auto, since they are always from seed, and kind of a one-and-done, as far as learning what they need, or can handle, nutrient-wise. I have used it on photo strains, when I've been running a particular mother for awhile, and had the grow dialed in.
Just my limited experience with autos has been a wake-up call in light feeding, that's for sure!
Liquid Koolbloom is pretty forgiving, compared to the dry.
As with everything, your mileage may vary...
