New Grower Medi's Medical grow

Shoot...I've only cracked 30% RH a couple times when the dryer was running...I've been growing these plants at an average 22%RH :)
You have really good conditions as far as I'm concerned...

Damn man, that's crazy low. I've been lucky I guess.

They're looking really good mate. I'm battling with rh at the moment. It's sitting around 70. I'm watering 2 10l pots on the same day. When my rh drops to 50 it's a good indicator my plants are due a water.

Thanks Gman, that is really high.

I like that there is a significant fluctuation to help guide watering, it makes things more simple when the plants can tell you when they want something.

Was having a similar convo with trapper on his thread. My rh in the house is about 60. Until today the UK is still wet and windy.

.: Day 17 :.

Today was a good day for Thing 2, she seems to be catching up to Thing 1 at a pretty steady pace. Still no sign of stress from the nutes despite the fact, I realized last night while laying in bed, that I had forgotten to mix the 1/2 tsp/gal solution with half RO water so what I gave the plants was actually at 1/2 concentration instead of 1/4. The top of my LED has been wonky since I got it, and I finally decided to take it apart today and fix the case, and of course to take pictures while I was in there. Unfortunately once I got it open I found 2 blades from the fan just sitting inside the case, so at some point in my near future I'll be replacing the fan. Not sure how that happened but I'm guessing it has something to do with why the top was not aligned with the case when I got it.

I got a gift card from Amazon today, and used it to get a 125w 2100K CFL to supplement my LED on a more permanent basis than the cheaper 5000K lights I've been using. I should be getting it by next Tuesday at the latest so I'll update once I see how it performs. If it performs well I'll likely pick up a second one.

Temp is a steady 77f/24c, and RH is sitting at around 45.

Inside my LED *note the missing blades*

That sucks about the fan blades...prob. so out of balance and noisier as a result....

I wonder if you should remove the odd blade out to balance it back out for the meantime....

I had actually considered that, but then decided I'd put my big boy pants on tomorrow and put in the time of undoing all the electronics, replacing the fan with a 120MM I have kicking around the house(I have several) and replacing all the tie downs, etc. to secure it again. I just didn't want to get into it tonight because of a less than awesome day and the fact that it's my wife's only night off from school. Ultimately I decided it was equally possible that it might increase wobble and then I'd have to do today what I could put off until tomorrow :P

Day 18

  • Plenty of continued growth today, the plants are starting to shoot up toward the light so I ratcheted it up a couple notches.

  • Tomorrow is water day so I conditioned some water to get ready for it. I decided to do a PH 7 watering with about 1/8 concentration of nutrients to give the girls a nice mild water/dry cycle.

  • I also decided to open up a ticket with the seller of my LED, not because of the cracked but because I got to thinking....How can a 3w led achieve 3w output with a 1w driver? If anyone knows LEDs well enough to know if this is possible I'd love an education, but for now my intuition tells me this is not likely. So I explained the situation in the ticket and told him I wouldn't report him or leave him feedback until I got a response. In the meantime I'm going to probably end up picking up a second 125W CFL in the event I have to send the LED back. I'm also throwing around the idea of switching to either HID or a 240 watt plus LED if I end up having to return the LED.

As usual it has taken me so long to finish this post I'm not sure if I'm forgetting anything, temp fluctuated overnight to 75 and went back up to 77, and RH is around 40% as expected the day before watering.

They're looking on track. Well done mate :)

.:Day 19 :.

First up thanks for keeping up with my grow, knowing that people are watching is keeping me focused.

Growth has again been steady, there is a new set of leaves coming up since last night, though the picture might not show it very clearly.

Today was water day and turned out to be a pretty massive hassle. Since I PHd last night I assumed all would be fine today, but I must have not had a very good idea of soil PH because the runoff was between 5.5 and 6 after watering. I took another half liter of water for each, Phd it to around 7, and ran it through to help flush out some of the low PH that must be collecting in the soil. Runnoff after that was closer to 6.5 so crisis averted.

I got a response from the seller of my LED today that felt a whole lot like dancing, for one he never mentioned anything about the drivers, he kept referring to the fact that the diodes were 3w, and so many milliamps, volts, etc. I decided to pick up a draw meter and test what the light was drawing for myself, and it turned out to be 55. Assuming the meter is correct that's an awfully large discrepancy from the advertised wattage of 180. But a lot closer to what I'd assume for 60 diodes connected to 1w LED drivers. I guess if it can be said that any good can come from this it will likely be the education I've received on LED technology while trying to substantiate the seller's claims. So the question becomes where can I find a reputable seller for a new LED? I'm also considering possibly building my own 100 diode X 3w LED panel though I'm not sure I'm going to enjoy that much tedium.

And that's all I got, I still have a good feeling about this grow, and I'm enjoying the ride bumps and all. Hope you all have a great weekend, I know I will :-)

Everything looks on track....

what's your distance from the light to the top of the plants? Ever since mine were established in veg, I've been 10.5 - 12 inches away.

a 180W UFO should be drawing 110 actual or there abouts.

hello buddy
just thought id stop by and give you some support you wont be disappointed with led thats for sure its more poweful than we expect lol i have to wear sunglasses if i dont want to be blinded !! well im at about 55 centimetres with my led which pumps out 50 to 55.000 lux which is great for plants (especially seedlings) to grow some say too much wont do them good ideal between 25.000 to 50.000 lux for the plants at the most obviously 25.000 been the poorest of conditions look more to 50.000 lux. 90.000 lux is killing them but hey watch and see obviously i understand people have different oppinions if you want some decent sellers on leds phytoleds apollo series which is what i have or the grow northen series mate you wont be disappointed im following buddy whatever you do and which ever direction you take good luck with the grow buddy happy gardening :peace:
