I think I was just confused and was thinking of you, not MOG, but I could be wrong. Like
@Mossy said I read too many threads on here
I know the feeling all too well!
I originally got the basic idea from the "joint Doctor" for his strain Ogre, which could get quite big.
I use smaller pots for the first 3 weeks, until sex shows.
Now, anyone who has read through the Mephisto Origins thread, may also have noticed similarities in our styles, which we both came to, independently of each other.
When we interviewed Mitch (Mephisto) We being the "Auto Warriors" when we were doing "live interviews".
Anyway back to the point, I asked Mitch about his his technique, which was transplant at day 17 as this still controlled stretch but not so much as mine!
He said he did for completely different reasons to mine. However he knew he could control size by transplanting close to sexual maturity.
Seeing as he was growing for seed, he still wanted to keep the plants a manageable size (not to big, not to small) but also having lots of seed.
I don't grow mine for seed and I have been growing in small spaces for the past 15 years, so compact yet chunky, is what I needed.
I transplant at sex generally around day 21 approx.
I worked further than transplant at sex, it is also important to keep temps at a constant, through the time when they would normally be stretching (at and just after sex).
When in stretch phase, the greater the temp swing between day temp and night temp, the greater the amount of stretch you will get.
I grow in 1 Liter pots (deep long root ones for tomatoes) for approx 3 weeks, until sex shows. This keeps the plant compact and the root mass smaller.
I then transplant to larger pots (8.5 liter but 5 Liter would be good too) no worries about treating them rough here, it is the transplant shock we need to stop stretch.
Transplant shock sends the plants energies to re-establishing the roots and in doing so goes straight past the stretch phase!
Add to that the constant temps and you get a very short plant that will chunk up.
To keep temps constant 24 hrs a day, either leave lights on 24/7 through stretch phase or use a thermostatic controlled tube heater.
If you like bud bombs, mossy has previously mentioned that full duplex/FD grows in a very similar style.
