So yesterday's lightning started a forest fire across the lake to the north. There is also one to the west and two more to the east. Needless to say it is a little smoky here right now. The water bombers are flying and scooping off the lake. Four fires within 100 miles is making me a little nervous. The fire fighting base station and heliport are only a couple of miles from me so I feel a little safer. I also have 11000 gallons of water in the pool and a good pump that I can use to protect the property. They are saying they should have the fire under control today if the winds hold off. It is getting scarier all of the time to live in the forest. Might have to look at a change in venue.

I have been in preparation for that situation for weeks. I now have an agricultural sprinkler mounted on the roof, a gas powered high pressure pump to use water from the creek, and I have spent days clearing underbrush within the reach of the sprinkler. So far, we have been lucky, the northwest corner of BC has had cool weather up until now. But that is changing rapidly, as will the fire situation. Last year we were surrounded by fires, friends of ours were evacuated due to one of them.

Diving in to fire protection as deeply as I have has been an interesting decision. About all I can say is that I would be happier losing the house after doing my best, than losing it after not trying to protect it. We too will be considering a move out of the forest before long.

Good luck with it gro bro, I hope you make out ok. :pighug:
