FD's Guide to Growing Hefty Autos in Small Places.

Ok guys i have been dragging my knuckles on this for too long. This thread will be dedicated to my actual grow technique. I will have everything in here from the way i germ seeds to the way i harvest and everything in between.

ill cover my soil mixes, teas, water adjustments, feeding schedules as well as the recipes for the soil and teas that i use. My goal is to teach how to grow the bud lumps you see in the small pots i use. I feel if you use this you may have the same success that i do when it comes to autos in small places.

Bare with me as i will update this on the regular, but will be locking it to get it all organized.

How many airstones are needed for a bath tub reservoir? I have only one but dont know if it's enough. Maybe if its ran 48 hrs before using the water there might be enough o2 in it?

Isn't there a risk of shocking the roots with colder water which would negate the addition of O2?

Gettin ready to try a batch of FD's soil and had a question. Is it 18 quarts of perlite to 25lbs. compost? Thats seems like alot and just wanted to be sure. Thanks for the help!

Here's the thing

First try last summer with autos failed, I believe due to the high temperature of August here, 35-42 Celsius. Basically the roots burned and, although the smoke was AMAZING, was barely enough to taste it, they stayed 20cm short :p They were in pots out in the balcony, no nutes, potting soil with perlite.

I'm planning/shopping to start my second try with autos, got some MI5 and SCH seeds coming, hopefully I will have all that I need by the end of February. Got me an HPS 400W and a handful of CFLs, 4 on the red specter and 2 on the blue. Nutes: What I could find is: BioGrow, BioBloom, and Top-Max from Biobizz, some Great White mucus thing for the roots. I'm definitely gonna buy me a bubble-stone to pump up the water after I've read this thread :D Egg shells I can get as well, but the Biobizz products I mentioned should cover that?

I'm having a hard time with soil though; I can get some natural soil from a garden which they put lots of animal droppings in it a year and a half ago, and they've been planting tomatoes and chillies and stuff so far, with great success! I mean, it's the garden of the place where I work, and whatever they plant there grows huge! The soil is kind of reddish..

Anyhow, I can get perlite, and potting soil (that dark fluffy one) from the shops here, plus some soil from that garden. That's all I have access to, I think. I'm thinking to mix it perlite/potting soil/garden soil 1/3 each. What do you think?

I'm trying to make it as close to right as possible this time, any input is greatly appreciated :)

Amazing thread, keep the info flowing!

Thanks

Ok so I need a clarification. I understand the tiered system completely. So what I'm wondering is you start the seeds in cups and move them onto the bigger pot of soil. My question is do you move the cups onto the bigger pot of soil before they are showing sex or do you move them onto the bigger pot after they are showing sex? Thanks in advance for the clarification

I move mine to the bigger pot at around 1 week old. Every time I've done so, the roots are already coming out the bottom of the cup. Unless you are starting with a much bigger/taller cup than the standard 16oz party cup, I would not leave them in it until sex (which can be 3 weeks or more).

Andy's right,i waited until 2 weeks with some pineapples and the roots unfolded out the bottom of the cup like an accordion!
