I thought it would be. Most stores get things like that on pallets and they are often stored outdoors and it's not a problem.
Yes, I like the idea of a 24 - 36 hours blackout before cutting. I've got a Pakistani Ryder that will probably go dark either today or tomorrow in preparation for harvest. I usually cut the main stalk near the base, then snip off the branches, manicure and trim them, then hang to dry. Doesn't really make a difference but I think there is less mess doing it that way. When I'm done I then empty out the pots, checking them for salt buildup on the insides. Too much salt and I know I need to flush a bit more in the future.
If anything, I usually find the buds get a little looser as the moisture is removed and everything shrinks a bit from the lack of water.
