Lighting Bigsm0 and the cob addiction

You explained that well @BigSm0, so that even a layman like me understood, thanks!

That’s a relief. It was hard to put on paper. For whatever reason people don’t believe in physics when it’s paired with growing. Basically light going through the air is like a bullet going through water. You would never expect it to slow like it does.

A perfect real world example. I have seen people say they had a 1000w hps in a 4x4 at 36”, I cringed!!!, I don’t know the specifics but my best guess would be that a 600w at 24” would have the same ppfd. Now you can see why light height can be so important.

At one point I had my cobs about 12-14"from canopy but people made me nervous about them being too close so I raised them to around 19"-24". I can't remember what they are exactly at right now. I think ~20".

I'm also growing photoperiods though so that makes a difference.

I actually had my AutoCobs inches away from my last photo. I had 3 cobs, 165 watts struggling to keep this big bitch lit lol. Some of the top leaves were cooked right off but the rest of the plant needed it. She pulled just over 3 grams per watt.

Man if that's the case I might as well try to get them lower like 15-16". We shall see though. Obviously I don't want them burned but I do want the most intense light possible for my SOG sticks

I'm a noob on these cobs but I'm keeping mine minimum 26" above my plants as you can see there's really no stretching going on and getting great penetration it seems. I'm going to keep them at least that far if not 32" from what I'm seeing in my room this seems to be doing good at the moment

Always up for suggestions @BigSm0

X2, single Double Grape in a waterfarm, two COBs and a 150HPS ( tent heater, lol). Plant is 2 weeks from seed, and I have backed off from all 3 lights, to a single COB during the day at 30" above the canopy. HPS switched on at night, same height. Sound about right? The old "hand under the light" trick, from my big-watt HPS days doesn't do me much good with these new lights...
Thanks, Kyle

Can’t disagree with results. I stumbled across a new word in my crypto trading debut. FUD I had to bust out the urban dictionary for that one lol. There is a lot of fud with lighting but I’m happy to say it doesn’t apply here.

Now for this space which has been a rough road. I have 4 cobs over a 3x3 space. In the last 2 or 3 grows things haven’t been great. It yielded well but a lot of leave issues and positive I didn’t get the plants to their full potential. This grow started the same. Never understood how the same lights, nutrients and strains could come out worse. Last grow I lowered the lights thinking they weren’t getting enough. It went bad, this grow I jacked the lights up and they are taking off. With the reflective walls and confined space I think I was overdoing it the whole time. It’s been 2 weeks with the lights up and the results are impressive.
