New Grower 1st hydro grow

I only had a reservoir and a top off tank, so 1 less to change than you. I definitely changed the reservoir that the plant was in weekly, and tried to do the same with the reservoir, but did miss a few weeks due to life being busy. One time I got lazy early in the grow, and didn’t change the top off tank for a few weeks. It wasnt the end of the world, but I felt it contributed to a slow start that run. I can’t recommend anything else, but I know some have had success without changing as frequently.

By the way, that was the biggest reason I left DWC, for organic soil growing. The maintenance was incredible.

it jist seems weird to me that of i have 10 to 15 gallons of water to dump all of it every week.but im off Friday ill dump the dwc bucket nd clean again......i wont use the control bucket nd res until late veg when she starts drinking a lot seems like a waste of nutes

I agree with no need for the additional buckets for a bit.

Not sure about control bucket concept anyway, but I am sure you have your reasons for wanting that.

the whole point was so that the res would sit ontop of control bucket and the control bucket had a float valve. so it would autofeed but i may just use my battery hand siphon and just use it to refil from one bucket to the next

Why wouldn’t you put the float valve in the reservoir where the plant is. Set it at the level to keep the water level, and have the top off tank top it off when water level triggers the float valve. You will still have to elevate the top off tank, but would eliminate the control bucket. I still don’t get how the float valve in the control bucket concept would ensure the water level in the reservoir remains close to constant, which is what you need. I wouldn’t care if the control bucket is at a nice water level if the plant reservoir is showing swings.

i kept reading that the roots will tangle and mess up the valve if you so that so i thought having a control bucket connect to dwc bucket would ensure they dont mess with it. i guess i could do it that way if the roots srent going to be an issue

I had a makeshift plastic shield protecting the float valve from the stray roots, but yeah it isn’t fool proof. If you aren’t going away for a week. You should be able to keep an eye on that. I still can’t understand how not having the float valve in the reservoir works to keep the water at a constant level in any case, but hey I am a little high!
