New Grower 4th grow…experimenting with node amounts and topping/not topping

Day 28

They’ve all taken well to training. I’m trying to keep main branches as flat as possible and I’m training the fan leaves as well. Due to this they’re a pest when I fertigate but no biggie. Here are 2 pics of each plant, one right after training about 20 hours ago and one now.

The Jammy Dodgers experiment is pretty cool. Chopping off the 4th and 5th nodes has provided good light down below. What happens from here is anyones guess but I’m picturing an upside down umbrella with some broken spokes. Fun stuff man I’ll tell ya what. Hard to tell in the pic but everything is pretty exposed with the training.

Day 30

Having a lot of fun with this grow already because I haven’t really trained plants this extensively before. Knowing that I would be trimming a lot of lower growth I’ve only trained to keep the tops level, whereas now my goal is to get that lower growth some light and see if I can’t get them sumbitches to grow fat. I was going to shoot for just main colas but I’ve decided I need to see what the plant can provide me from all angles. Maybe one day the natural yield per plant will be important to me but as a new grower my joy so far comes from manipulating and shaping the plants. I think I‘ve just been a carpenter so long that I have to put my own thumbprint on things that I’m building lol. Happy growing everyone! Peace

Day 31

The kids are filling in nicely day by day. I’ve done a little defol of fans that were laying on top of each other and cutting some leaf fingers here and there. Starting to analyze what I’m gonna leave to grow and what will eventually be removed.

Forgot to mention above that I just ordered a charcoal filter from AC infinity and I’m wondering if anyone can vouch for the lack of odor? The smell from the exhaust has never been a problem but rather a pleasure for myself AND my neighbors when it would occasionally get out when I have the shed door open. But man the Sour Crack kids are so wonderfully strong that I smelled em out front on the sidewalk today lol no bueno. My only fear is the breaking and entering to get to the plants which leads to my tools tv etc. The plants are the most replaceable items in the garage! So I figure if it works well for others but not for me then I’ll know it’s not the tool, it’s me doing something wrong.

I've used the 4" and 6" AC infinity charcoal filters since I started and they work great. I exhaust into my attic and there is a slight smell during heavy flowering with a full tent for a week or two but the rest is pretty much completely covered. I have the tent half full right now and I don't notice much smell until I open the door. It won't get rid of all of the smell but it will dampen most of it. In my case it's a must and they have worked well for me. After about 6 months you can unscrew and swap the end caps on them so it's being sucked the opposite way to get the max use out of it. Had both of mine for about a year of constant growing and I will probably end up replacing them soon so worth the money IMO.

As for orientation, I have the air in the tent sucked through the filter to exhaust.

Hey man,
I have that filter or one similar to it, and it seems to do the trick. If you’re running a humidifier in the same tent, be careful. I was running mine with tap water and that seems to have clogged the filter. Haven’t used it in my past couple of grows because of this - so I’m sort of in the market for a new one too. Girlfriend hasn’t complained about the smell in the house though, so I haven’t gotten around to it. And it certainly doesn’t bother me!

I was wondering how long they last as they are relatively inexpensive and a little over a year sounds about right for the price. Sounds like it’s gonna do the trick thanks much Dank

Great point about the humidifier man, makes perfect sense but I wouldn’t have thought of that. Thank you for solid info Dan

If you use an evaporative humidifier and tap water you shouldn't have any issues. The wicks soak up all the minerals. I've ran my setup like that since I got it. But Daniel is right with the sonic ones, that will definitely clog it.
