New Grower 4th grow…experimenting with node amounts and topping/not topping

I found that purple light in my granddaughters secret stash and @JP1 was spot on! @Dankerson its an Outlier C which is
Outlier Z F4 x Crinkled Cookies F2! Thanks for the hookup JP lmao
Cool deal man, I've definitely checked that one out a few times, very curious to see how it turns out!

Day 22

First day showing sex and also topping day. Hopefully I didn’t wait a day or two too long but the experiments must roll on. I clipped all first nodes except for one plant, not yield related I just like the extra space for watering.
I decided who gets what by instinct after watching them grow for three weeks. Now, whether the 2 continue to grow or not after I butchered them remains to be seen, but it’s the seeing part that I’m looking forward to. The 8 cola plants should keep me smoking if the experiments turn afoul.

Outlier C and Double Grape had first nodes removed and will be topped after the 5th nodes and they’re barely going so nothing for them today

3 Bears OG had first node removed and was topped after the 3rd node. Looking to leave most if not all of the lower growth that is usually removed. Just wanna see if they get fat when they make up the canopy. Left a nice chunk on top to encourage a fatter knuckle.

Jammy Dodgers #2 has nodes 1 2 and 3 intact and 4th and 5th nodes removed. Going for 6 colas and a fat main. The picture in my head has the next node or two removed also but we’ll see. She’s the fastest grower so far, one node ahead of the rest.

I’m considering calling an audible. The more I stare at 3 Bears the more curious I become about how she’d look if I topped her bottom nodes. That could look pretty badass. Or it could be a disaster. I’ll never know unless I try, definitely going to consider it.

Day 23

First off, I just ordered a 4x8 tent with the near future goal of growing some tomatoes for my granddaughter. She’s five and she loves them, eats em like apples. Also will experiment with easy veggies/spices. I figure I’ll start with one 4x4 light in the center with the bud under it and see, by experiment, if I can grow tomato plants on the sides with residual light. Id really like to just have one light operating but we’ll see. In the meantime both lights will be up with young ones on one side and old dudes on the other until harvest (they’re in their early 60s)

I decided to top Double Grape and Night Owl after the 4th node and go for six colas. I want to see if theres eventually enough space between colas that I can push the plants closer together in an interlocking/overlapping type of manner. I picture gears interlocking, might not work out but will be pretty badass if it does. While the yield per plant would be decreased, I’d have more room for variety.

Today I did some early training on Jammy Dodgers because she has enough node length to start manipulating node direction. I trained some fan leaves as well.

Correction…I incorrectly said plants were 16 days old yesterday. They were 19. That explains the phenomenal growth :crying:
Stoner diaries. Me too. This grow, I Iet a spreadsheet keep track because I got fed up going back over the records each time I update. Nice plant whatever the age. :pighug:

Depending on the strain, 6 colas is not likely the outcome:

This girl is one plant in a ~1gallon pot in coco, topped once. There are over 30 colas by my count. I top pretty much all of my plants, and as far as I can tell, not once did it slow one down. I top when the target stem is just long enough to pinch or cut, I do not let leaves develop significantly above the cut point. You just want to defeat apical dominance, you don't need to waste growth, and growth above the cut point is largely waste.

Happy topping mates. :pighug:
