Why am i constantly failling?

So I made an executive decision to lollipop it and try to focus all energy on the colas. We shall see how that works out for me

I just finished a Big Bud that I lolli popped 1/2 the plant (bottom 1/2 of course). Got 17-3/4 oz. of Trimmed but wet buds. Probably get 5-6 oz. once dry. Nothing to brag about ... but it's been the biggest yield off one plant I've had yet. Gotta be the new lights. Starting my New grow today. 9 Plants & it will be my 1st journal.

Was the big bud a auto? That's a damn. Nice yield for an auto. I only got 2.5 oz. Combined from the 2 girls out cookies I harvested last Sunday. But I attribute the small plants and airy buds to that fact that they weren't getting enough light cause the gorilla glue didn't flower on it's own and the tent got way too cramped. But that being said. I had a little taste as I was jarring the 2 and it's some potent smoke. Takes about 5 mins for it to hit . But it hits hard a heady. Very giddy and euphoric. What are the 9 your starting?

The Big Bud was suppose to be an Auto but wasn't. I had 6 Auto's growing & 1 of the 6 never flowered so it vegged for 8 weeks or so & then switched to 12/12. This is the Big Bud that happened to. I attribute the yield to the lights & the strain. It's the only thing I changed before I went into flower & it paid off. I usually only got 2 - 2.5 oz. per plant. It's almost dry so should be able to get a dry weight & jar it tomorrow.
Anyways, started my Journal this morning. (Buds Buddy's 1st Grow Journal) Only have pics of my set up & pots of Coco posted so far as I just planted the seeds this morning.
Growing Northern Lights, Critical 2.0, N.L. x Critical 2.0, AK 47, AK 47 x Six Shooter, Haze XL (These are the 6 Auto's). The Photo's are Widow's Breath & Afghan Kush. The Re-Veg is the Big Bud I just harvested. I'm trying to find 6 Auto's & 6 Photo's I really like to grow all the time. This is only my 2nd Auto grow so I only have 1 on my list to re-order so far & that is BCN Critical XXL. It was a good yielder & a very nice high. As far as Photo's....Fire OG is my favorite; but I like Incredible Bulk, Widows Breath & Big Bud so far. Planning to keep clones going on Widow's Breath & Big Bud this time. Time to choose a Mother on those 2 out of the clones.
Should be an interesting grow since it's a mix of things.

That's awsome. Good on ya. I look forward to browsing the grow journal. Your gona be a busy man

Based on your most recent post, your environment is in fact for germination if you're using the wet paper towel method. I read through the entire thread and I don't think you have a germination issue on your hands. But there are also a lot of steps in your germination process that haven't been mentioned yet. The first pic you posted definitely has nothing to do with you or anything you did. That's a straight up mutated plant. Looks nothing like cannabis at this point. I'd like to see how these three new seedlings do when they pop up in a day or two. Seedling need a higher rh when they are in the stage that your newly germed seeds are in. Take a couple16 oz plastic drinking water bottles... Cut them with scissor about 6-8 inches from the bottom. Place those bottom pieces over your seedlings until they reach the top of the cover. This will keep their humidity in line and help give them a good start. I'm hoping your new seeds are perfect little seedlings, because I can honestly say that you were at fault here! But for the sake of full disclosure, can you give us a full description of the first germination attempt?
Hi! The first germination attempt i placed the 5 seeds in a glas of water and after 20h or so i gave them a light tap sp that the seeds sank to the bottom of the glas. After another 12 hours atleast i transferred the seeds on to a papertowel, folded the papertowel over the seeds and poured some of the same water that i initially used in the first place. I closed the top with a plate( failed to give them air). A root started to grow from the seeds, and on one of them the seed had separated from the root. Leading me to think i overgerminated them.

On the secon attempt wich i have described i was more cautios and the root that started to grow looked a lot like the succesfull gowing videos i have been watching on youtube. I checked the pots by carefully poking around and found no sprouted seedlings, only the dead seed you se in the recently attached photos. I am planning on ordering smart pots, changing the soilmix and trying again.

Good Advice Pro !!! If you can't get the RH up in the tent get it up directly at the plant. That works great temporarily until the plants get too big for the cup; but gives you time to get things in order.
Sativa Cat, check your soil pH by the run off water. Check the pH when you water & then check the pH of the water that comes out the bottom of your pot. If it's too high or too low, keep running water through it til you get the correct pH you want. I like 6.2 - 6.4 for soil. Your soil has Nutes so don't add none for a few weeks at least. Just pH'd water for now & only small amounts. When you get 4 - 5 Nodes high you'll want to start adding some Nutes at 1/4 - 1/2 strength & increase from there. Also top at the 4th node or if it's an Auto Flower around day 21.

Hi again Sativa-Cat

Looks like we're all here to help you hit the ground running! - Lots of good advice in here! ^_^

I scanned through the posts, and i'll just pick out some things that i know about (sorry for the short bit quotes)

Those PH strips are almost useless - equal to the terrible yellow PH meters you can buy. There are some cheaper ones that work (well ... cheaper than Bluelabs) .. If you have them in your country, look at the "Essential" range of PH meters. They served me well when i used them.

Not Sativa-CAt .. but this caught my eye ... I've suffered this way, and it can be heart breaking. obviously genetics come into play to some degree - but a good PK regime at the right time along with really good light penetration will sort that out! (Everyone knows i'm a slap-dash grower ... i'm just lucky to have had the one to one advise from some growing super-heros lol....just paying it forwatrd!)

It's a bit hot! :D .. you know that already!

Here is the problem. The killer of seedlings ... the culprit of later nute lockout .. and the bane of new growers.
It's like my old city water (rubbish!!)

You'll need to get some nitric acid (PHdown) .. or if that's impossible for now ... some lemon juice (not as good, but will do). You still need a PH meter to accurately measure your PH. Get it down to 6.2 (after nutes when you're using them).

The PH pen will be the savoir of grows for you.

Alternatively, check out the local supermarkets for their water selection .... read all the labels (yes ... you'll look like a nutter!) ... if you can find one with a PH of 6.0-6.5, give it a whirl ... it's bound to be better than your tap.

Ideally, before dropping your seed into the soil, you'ld have watered it a bit a day or 2 before (like 1 litre of PH adjusted water). Seeds don't like being put in dry soil. (nor soaking wet .. jsut moist)
Pop a clear plastic cup over it where the seed was sown (spray the inside of the cup) for a humidty dome. When the seed pops up in 2 or three days, use the plastic cup to add a little water (just 1/4 of the cup around the base of the seedling) and pop the cup back on.

Increase the water every couple of days a little.
When the leaves start reaching the edge of the cup, take it away and get a fan lightly rustling the seedling.

Build up the water amount every couple of days. when it's properly up with some leaves (10 days ish) .. you can water larger amounts. I like to do a circle around the outside of the pot(near the walls) to encourage the roots to dearch .. then next watering, do a circle around the inside (around the stem).

Watering correctly comes with practice ... If you get to day 20 and the leaves have hit the edge of the pot .. you've rocked the start! :D

Good luck!! :D

:d5:
Hi!
Lots of good point lets start from the PH meater. PH meaters run between 63-200+(converted to USD) where i live the investment will pay of but i really need to know what type is " not garbage". Would a GHE PH test kit be enough or will a Adwa PH meater AD11 be a minumum requierment. What about the amount of nitric acid or lemon juice to lower a certain amount of water with a specific PH, is there any formula or do i just experiment?

I have some troubel understanding some of this part. By " before dropping your seed into the soil you'ld have watered it a bit a day or 2 before (like 1 litre of PH adjusted water). Does this mean that i should make sure the seed open up a root starts to grow from it and place them in to the final growing medium, place a clear plastic cup( what dimensions) over it to create a humidity dome. Should there be holes in the top of the plastic cup for some of the air to be able to escape?

Final point: The soilmix i have been thinking about changing the soilmix and will post a few examples of possible candidates and what my goals are for this grow. If you have read anything about what i have written of the soilmix, what are your opion of it and what can i do better to make sure i have a soilmix that will increase my chances of having a succecful grow and maximizing it.

Hey bud, hope some of your sprouts have broken ground! If not, just know that this is an unfortunate but common tale for gardeners just getting started. This can be really discouraging due to the cost of seeds, but eventually you will get past it!

You also have the challenge of a brand new environment. Learning how to work with your temperature and humidity and in this case your soil and water.

You may need to continue experimenting until you find a seed starting method that works for you. Maybe experiment with fewer seeds at a time until you get a method locked down.

I wouldn't worry too much about your light for now. It should get you by until your plants are taking up more than 2 square feet.

As a general rule you want about 50 actual watts per square foot for flower. So 120 watt light can cover a little more than 2 square feet.

I would read the replies of people who grow frequently in soil. The experienced gardeners with similar setups to your own will have insights that can save you time and get you on the right track.

Good luck!

Marshydro has 2 models in their ECO series https://www.mars-hydro.com/led-grow-light/mars-eco-led-grow-light 300W and 600W unless i am completly out of it my should be a 300W light the 120 i think is the angel of the light diods.

I really need to start follow your journal 5-6 oz per plant, if i was to get 3 i would feel like Liverpool at the moment :p.

Where do you get your seeds from if you dont mind me asking?

This is one reason I really don't like mars, and why people stopped trusting this type of LED.

If you read the specs on the link you sent it only pulls 116 watts from the wall. Companies like mars tried to tell us all years ago that 120 watts of their LEDs were like a 300 watt hid (They aren't), hence why they call it "300w" when it only pulls 120.

I fell for it big time back in 2013 when mars was called "Top LED". I had 2 of their lights and got 2 more when they changed their name to mars hydro.

Anyways, I wouldn't worry much about it until you get your issues sorted out regarding getting sprouts popping up healthy.

You'll have plenty of time to look at lighting later and you have something to get you by until then. Good luck!
