Mephisto Genetics White Crack + Sour Livers SIP LOS Grow

I just keep a lid on my bin and don’t worry about any bugs, most belong there anyways ..... Worms clawing up side of bin indicates too much moisture - add some dry coir to your bin to help dry out - just Shave off and break up coir and add to help dry bin.
I needed some coco to add to my plain peat base so I just added water and fluffed a whole brick! I paid couple $ more and grabbed at pet store since they had it in stock and was still like 27qt worth for $7! I got from there cuz I knew wouldn’t have crap added to coco but also didn’t wanna wait on Home Depot to order it! Once it was fluffed I pulled the newspaper scraps and the piece of cardboard until it dries out some! Seemed pretty dry in the soil but what do I know! Not sure if I use my moisture meter what a good # for bin should be??? Any guess??
:thanks: amigo

Unfortunately I couldn't find that info. Even the DIY Tutes don't mention it.

OK so I measured the distance between high water mark and the bottom of the soil screen .....

Junior Earthbox about 5/8”
Original Earthbox slightly over an inch

As slow mentioned the City Slicker is available at Big Box Stores so perhaps check and see how it is built .....

Just a tip, perhaps you know, use a peat based soil as you are looking for the soil to wick water upwards so avoid lava based soils, they won’t work “as well” .... also - avoid high lifts as the wicking can only lift so high, another reason for the plastic shower Cap so moisture can condense against and drip slowly helping to keep the top few inches moist .... Good luck with your build!

Doubt a City Picker will fit if an earthbox doesnt. Also, Menards has the CP Cheaper than Amazon if you have one around. Peace, slow

City Picker is larger than the Junior but less space than the Original - Not sure a City Picker can fit inside a 2x4 tent, tight squeeze if it did - smallest tent I would use for CP is a 3x3 - One CP and 3x3 and medium to large plant and fill the tent ......

2x4 tent the Junior is medium plant or two juniors if small compact plants or one original Earthbox ..... Once you get into larger tents it then you need to ask yourself what plants and what combination of SIP Containers would work best ..... But you first question is what strains do I wanna grow?

Also as pointed out look at Big Box Stores for City Picker as Amazon has free freight into their price and it’s higher there but one option is to shop Big Box Stores website, sometimes you can get Free Ship from them!

For sure not too moist, around 100 millibars which translates to you should NOT be able to wring water out of it BUT moist enough to hold together, IF BEDDING is falling apart in your hand probably too dry ...... If that’s case spray mist an area and put lid back on and check again in a few hours .... Another way to put it - If moisture level would grow a plant then it will grow worms .... and even though I own a moisture meter I’ve never put in my worm bins .... perhaps @organic Sinsemight have a few more pointer on how to tell - Sinse Help Please ....

Another sign of too much moisture is if the worms tails turn yellow, so watch for that ......

Not totally sure I understood your post or perhaps my previous post was off but anyways if you wanna add dry coir shave coir, not a block, to the bin - try to avoid disturbing the worms - no mixing up their bedding unless harvesting and even then do partial harvest and put new bedding on side allowing worms to migrate to if they like - always try to add things in corner or side for best results - let the worms tell you they like - with the coir wish I would of advised to just pull back a side and put coir against the tub wall and their bedding allowing coir to slowly absorb but that review mirror talk, forward we move!

Peace always,
MOB

Thanks so much for the info. The earth box is just 1" too big but too big is too big
I was on the gro-kachi site and noticed they were suggesting coco, perlite and I think gypsum for the base. That Koot guy was using it too. I was kind of wondering about coco mainly cause I've got a bunch of coco/perlite/rice hulls already. $45 for 2 cu' BAS
Unless your wealthy, FL isn't too canna friendly. Closest hydro stores are hour away and I don't trust em so I have to pay the freight.

:welcome: Your are most welcome, glad to share ..... Perlite is something I would avoid but if they suggest that recipe give it a whirl as you are right, freight is the killer but if you amend a few grows it does bring cost down and with that soil recipe it will be more like a hydro grow in that the food the plant needs isn’t contained in the perlite or coco leaving only the rice hulls, which take a long time to break down and the supplements for food so essentially growing hydro style with Kashi and supplements.

I'll prolly try the coco just to get my feet wet. I also threw some roots in from my last grow- But then again maybe just breakdown and get a bag from BAS. Decisions, decisions
