Mephisto Genetics White Crack + Sour Livers SIP LOS Grow

I use V3 now none gave me any trouble really but I did amend soil with roots organic for extra cal mag. The newest version seems to be on point. I have been thinking of going organic and may do it on my 1st photo out door run in a 65 gallon rain science grow bag, I brew a good tea and love kelp
With a good soil mix especially one with Cal mag taken care of and lotsa worm poops, tea and kelp will probably be enough to carry an auto to harvest beautifully. Maybe a touch of bone meal or Guano or insect frass or similar for a touch of P. That should take care of all major macro and micro nutes plus minerals. Maybe a little Fish Hydrolysate during veg or longer vegging autos but since you make tea, should be something you already have anyways. Then to add icing to the cake, either purchase or culture own bacteria/fungi/enzyme/hormones which some is already in your tea but not all. That icing part is the L of LOS, to keep it cycling and alive. I have no experience with photos but I’m guessing up the ratio?

So baked I cannot remember why I’m posting this. Not like you need any help lol. This happens to me a lot. Lol

:pass:

Thanks for stopping by ..... Love hearing that - I find going back to Sam’s Journal helps keep me dialed in ....

DWC has always interested me and I know you can kinda do “organic hydro” and i have a DWC setup and some MC1 (anyone want, message me?) actually but I can’t get past the natural organic taste of Sam’s Grow so the DWC setup sits in the corner .....

I truly believe LOS will be the wave of the future, you will see LOS Stores and less hydro stores but that’s just me - I do know some monster plants can be grown hydro - I’ve seen them here on AFN including an absolutely beautiful garden by @St. Tom - I’m in awe of how large a Flippin plant can grow in coco and a discarded pop bottle, I mean unreal and for sure LOS never do that .....

@slowandeasy a very proficient coco grower has made the switch, and now you are loving it, so the movement to LOS is moving forward!

Peace,
MOB

Yep, I already notice the difference in size from DWC to true organics. However, I would certainly trade some grams for better overall quality, which is the part I am really looking forward to confirming. This is defnitely a lower maintenance style already, though. Getting my arms around the feed the soil and not the plant concept has been tricky, but each day I am getting better.

Insect Frass that is what I forgot to mention to @slowandeasy - slow you might consider adding some to your next box - ok to top dress but I mix some in soil in all my grows - helps keep bad bugs away and provide some nutrients .....

Funny @BakEQ you mention fish hydrolysate - I just gave some to the girls like an hour ago - I used this product in my last grow and I think it worked but no side by side compare either ......https://buildasoil.com/products/thrive-n-organic-amino-acid

I think the simplest lesson I learned came from Ruth Strout - A organic gardener had many books and was known for gardening naked, colorful gal - anyways she said just make mine mulch, mulch and more mulch - So I started doing that with my vegetable garden - mulch - mulch and more mulch and guess what big tomatoes big everything - the soil was black and rich - worms in the soil working their magic .....

With indoor i do same - mulch, mulch and more mulch - I put some things in like kelp, Karanja, barley, oyster shells and a few others, like bat guano, sea bird guano and some rock dust and mix that into the mulch or top dress and the worms take care of the rest - they eat up the mulch and poop - they make airways and actually deliver the food to the roots - worlds best gardeners btw .....

I use bagged soil and add my own worms and compost - that’s it done ....

For mulch I use old aged straw and ground up leaves - soak - add amendments as needed and then top dress and let the worms deal with the rest .....

Now keeping worms alive is the key to keeping soil truly alive, and that’s where the SIP Container excels compared to a cloth pot, unless we are talking 15 gallon cloth pot or better as a smaller 7-10 gallon pot struggles with a dry / wet cycle without some type of drip irrigation where the earthbox is always at the right moisture for the worms to thrive, given they have food - which brings us back to the mulch or worm food.

In a nutshell - raise worms in an earthbox and grow big organic plants!

Different places have different type of frass, I think. Our type here is around 3-6-2 or something. Usually it should be higher in P. But the main thing we are after is the Chitin. Basically the same reason we use Crustacean or Shrimp/Crab meal. I just prefer frass as it’s more balanced. In a nutshell, Chitin makes the plant feel it’s under attack or something, she then makes strong cell walls = stronger more resistant plant.

Fish Hydrolysate is usually around 5-1-1 or so and although most people use it as a veg nute, for the High available N, it’s most impressive feature is in its Amino Acids and the fact that it’s actually a better carb choice than molasses. So most ppl add some fish to their tea in addition to molasses.

The mulch you mentioned actually covers all bases. Kelp for K, Neem for N, Barley for enzymes, Oyster Shell for CA and minerals, Rock Dust, Guano for P and minerals. The worm you put in plus castings will give the bacteria and fungi needed. That’s why we’re seeing all the great grows from you. You are getting everything dialed in!

Like Slow though, I won’t be using live worms in pot. Just don’t see myself doing it despite agreeing with all the benefits you mentioned. We get faster breakdown of nutrients, the worms help create a buffer and act as intel providers to the grower, soil health indicator and more. I agree with all that as it makes perfect sense. Still, don’t see myself doing it. Lol

thanks @MrOldBoy This is a new twist on an old idea. Instead of focusing on the soil, you focus on the worm she which indirectly ensures you have great soil. I get it, and am intrigued with the whole idea of adding worms to the pot, as I use three gallon growbags for space considerations. This post only makes me want to try throwing a few worms in each pot and seeing what happens. I use lots of EWC, but haven't graduated to using actual worms yet! One day... maybe. Haha!

Well said, bro you know your stuff .....

Thrive.n does have a lot of N but during flower, especially early, the plant needs N so they got a dose yesterday - I see on buildasoil web site they have a bloom version so of course I ordered and adding some of that to the mix ....,

I guess the part I’m missing is reason why folks don’t like worms and not just you BakEQ - @slowandeasy no like either, I just don’t get it - I mean the fact they work around the roots, aeration and break down mulch - provide fertilizer- such wonderful helpers and they never go on strike or have sick days so I’m puzzled as to the why?

If you use EWC the little guys might just appear anyways, depends on the source of your EWC if there are any live eggs in those castings - having said that due to the wet/dry cycle of the a cloth pot I myself had hard time keeping at the correct moisture to keep the worms happy and I had seven gallon cloth pots ..... If you had 15 gallon pots better chance but with a 3 gallon odds are stacked against you but it is possible, myself I wouldn’t run out and buy a pound of worms if using small pots .....

If you listen to any of the podcasts at KIS they highly recommend a minimum of 15 gallon pot for LOS - I tried doing LOS in smaller pots and it woRked out ok but the larger the pot the better for LOS ......The Earthbox however does keep the soil at X millibars constantly and the worms do well inside the Box because moisture is just right - add food and BINGO your worms are happy.

I love this little girl - Strawberry NUGS - she is quickly becoming my favorite ..... Last night I did a little training on her - a trick I learned from @Organic Sinse - thank you Sinse :toke:

Heres a before I went to bed pic - I have a couple candy canes holding down two fan leaves, hard to see in pic but I also tied Up a couple fan leaves to help expose lower sites .... Off to the left and right you can see candy canes hanging on 24k and Glod Glue but in focus is NUGS
