Mephisto Genetics White Crack and Kis Organics Soil

Level indicator and mesh I like those but the different shapes could be challenging- oblong seems to work well and I say that because the root Earthbox DOES NOT work well for our plant - for some reason but for sure study possibility .....Perhaps a version in-between Original and Junior ....

filler tube that comes thru side of box, rather than inside - have it outside the cover area - so cap didn’t have to go over tube - maybe separate piece molded in the side or plumb a piece and either case add a slide in place extension or even funnel extension .....

of course most changes would add some type of cost except simple ones like make the cap stronger, corporate America for ya ....

If we :pass: one we would probably hit on more!

PS .... Suppose outside filler tube is a hardware store trip and sharp hole saw - wouldn‘t be that hard, idea is to deliver water to the res and not leak!
That other brand fills in the side, not the top. Having a tube incorperated into the top is fine...If you dont have to mess with a showercap attatched to it. Looking at the Single ROOT Earthbox depth looks different than Original/Junior. Meaning there is much more vertical root space vs horizontal. The Homemade tote I will make is a lowprofile tote that could potentially hold 4 to 6 clones if flipped within 2 weeks.
Yes making changes to the EB could increase production costs. However when you make a superior product, you can charge a little more...because it is an improvent on an existing design. For me personally I would like to have a different top. Not a cap, more of a Lid that is pest proof, durable, and easier to access for top dressings. Water tube isolated to avoid being in the way of amything

Gave thought to a modular type top but how big would the plant hole be and were would it be at? Would. Would the top snap together or? With the plastic shower cap one is free to place plant or plants where they want?

People pay for a quality product, Apple has proven that otherwise folks wouldn’t pay upwards of a $1,000 for a phone verses $100.

This is what I was doing before I got sidetracked. 12g tote, couple sections of drain tube wrapped in a sock at the bottom, pvc filler tube. Cut the lid in half, make a couple holes, done. If I stuck with the Jr's, I'd probably end up designing a cap for the top, and a plug for the drain on my 3d printer.

As a guy who's been in tech for a looooooong time, don't get me started on Apple. It's 85.2% branding, 14.8% "quality" ;)

Harvest time approaches for my 2 organic girls. Maybe this week. I've been plucking troubled leaves all along, one of them is a little sparse but stacking nicely. The other one still has most of her leaves, a cute pink double bud top, but smaller buds. The gnats are nearly gone (probably gone, would have to switch out traps to verify but I'm in the harvest windows so it's almost pointless). Haven't seen a thrip in a while and I've been smackin leaves.

Got a little veg tent setup over the weekend, getting ready to start a new run this week of some new Meph sativas. Still wavering on coco/organic. Part of me says go coco/sterile and sprinkle in some organic grows. Part of me says fuck it, run the same soil+amendments I have left.

Pretty sure my next run won't be in a Jr or a Grobucket. Been there, done that -- got the yellow sticky traps as proof, lol. Gonna either try open top 5g organic fabric, or finish up my SIP tote running open top.

Not sure, have a couple weeks to sort it out.

Depends on size and shape and how many clones I want to do. But tge Juniors have proven to be a good shape IF you plant at the OPPOSITE end of feedling tube, because that leaves the long stretch to easily top dress. It is NOT a good shape for 2 clones. There is not enough room between them to top dress easily. The csp becomes a pain with 2 clones. So the easiesr way to grow 2 clones in 1 tote would be to have a Rectangle Square tote. Putting both clones along the one side in a row. Allowing for the side of the lid holding the plants to never be messed with. Leaving half or more of the tote lid to be removed for easy top dressing. I am looking at a tote right now in my room that could accomidate 3 clones. I would make a nicer verdion of what I am doing now to keep pests out near the base of the stem. I would make cut outs for a Pool Noodle type insert to easily pop in and out, expanding/ holding the stem while the plant grows and keeping pests out. I will take pics, when I make one. I have a great idea on how to add wicking net pots to the rez too.

Also, I literally just planted my 2 Grape Rolex seeds. 1 had a very nice tail after 38 hours in water in my heated black tote. The other not even opened? So, I planted the nice tail seed DIRECTLY into the Junior. The unopened went into a small cup of starter soil. I used a few cups of Starter soil in my Junior where I planted the seed. So this experiment wont be perfect, as they are already not on the same schedule. However, if the other seed pops soon we can see basically how it does compared to directly planting size wise after a few days. I will try it on the next seeds I start too. Peace, slow

Please dont take this the wrong way, but I dont understand why you are blaming an Junior or Grobucket for your pest issue and think that growing open will somehow solve your pest issue. When infact your medium is where your pests came from, the containers didnt produce them. If you actually make a SIP that is pest free, it would be far superior to a 5g fabric pot. Your ledt over Soil is probabaly still harboring pest and should be tossed. Using it is basically like rolling the dice. And Coco/Organics is a complete Joke. I understand your frustrations with pests, but Coco and Dry Organics is not the answer to any problem, its the worst way to use Coco. If you are truly pest free and want to remain thst way for atleast a cycle, try your sterile method and feed nutes sith Coco. If you try Coco and Dry ammendments you will be highly disappointed and if for some reason you still have pests the yield and end product would be almost useless. You deserve a good cycle after this one, dont dig yourself a deeper hole. Good luck, slow

I'm certainly not blaming the container for the pests.

As used car salesman say... "There is an ass for every seat". I'm just trying to find my seat ;)

Hydroponics jive with how my brain works. Organics are the way I think I want to grow. Just finding my way. Not sure organics with a hermetic seal is my way.

As disappointing as it was to get some pests, it was a beneficial learning experience. And probably inevitable growing in dirt. May have reduced yields some, but I still pulled a half pound outta a single 4AM coco girl. So... it's all good man.

I will be watching your Grape Rolex slow. I think you will like planting in the final containers. Its not for everyone or everyone's situation, but I have always planted in my final containers. The pocket of seed starter is the ticket. As long as a person can get and keep good soil temps, I feel it is vastly superior to transplanting. Especially if you are using Mycorrihaziel fungi.
cheers

Right on brother, good attitude to have! Each method has advantages and disadvantages and I 100% undertand that Hydro is how your brain works. I did hydro right out of the gate a couple decades ago. I was DEAD set agsinst Oranics til now. I was afraid of pests and liked the cleanliness of hydro. Coco was the best move I made from hydro about 7 years after doing hydro and still believe it is an amazing medium that preforms better than any other in small containers. Cant deny Coco yields when you do it right, I still do Coco plants and cloning in Coco is the best way to clone IMO. Unfortunately pests can and do come in Coco as well, however soil is more common. My old rommate had Gnats from Bagged Coco recently and some pot mites from Bontonicare Bricked Coco many years ago.
I just steralized some Char Coir coco to take clones tonight. My first 2 pair of clones that went into Juniors were vegged too long because I had to get my room reorganized with new tents. By then they got too large. So, my plan now is to clone the crap out of them and toss the plants tomorrow. I am testing some new nutes for Perscripction Blend nutes, so 4 of the clones will be in Coco using Perscription Blend Nutes once rooted. This strain grows large quickly. I have to flip the 4 clones I took a couple weeks after the first batch, they are ready. They will be flipped tomorrow, once I get those large ones cut down. Inam excited to see how the clones do, my first time doing them to harvest. Plus they are in Soil, so I dont know how they will react in flower. I willl top dress tomorrow. Supossidly only a 7 week Flower, but we will see. Thats super fast...hence the name Fast Master. It is a Skunk cross. Peace, slow

So I have a decent pocet of Seed Stater soil and its pre-loaded with Mycos, plus I sprinkled some in the hole I dug! The root looked nice and healthy when I planted it. I will go check the temps with my Laser thermometer. But the tent will be in mid 80s, so I am not using my heating mat in there unless the soil is not warm enough. I have the seed that I planted in cup on the heating mat for a day or 2 because that seed wasnt open yet. Want to make sure the soil is nice and warm, so I set the thermostat at 85F for heating mat and its in my black tote. Will move to tent if/when it pops up. I predict the directly planted seed will be above ground quickly and do very well. I filled my Rez up and sprayed my layers of Soil with Water/Orca as I loaded the Juniors this morning. I will assume that I wont have to add water for a good 5 days or more starting directly. However, I also predict that the plant will do better than transplanted. The food will be directly available as the seedling grows, vs potentially starving your seedling in Starter Soil if left too long. I didnt have the convinient Starter tents that I have currently, until a werk or so ago. So I wi be able to start seeds directly 100% of the time moving forward. Like you said, if your temps are warm enough and you have the space....direct planting should be far superior for many reasons...plus no trsnsplant isses to deal with ever. Win Win. I am even hoping that a nice direct start will make the total grow time to be a fast as possible. Any stress, rootbounding, transplant issues can potentially extend growz. I will give my unopened Grape Rolex 3 days to pop up and if not I will put a Diesel cookies in water to replace it. But lets hope it germs. Thanks for the support, slow

I just steralized some Char Coir coco to take clones tonight.

I combined some used + a new brick and did the initial rinse with some RO/cannazym (a few roots are still in there and I had the zym, so wtf), couple days later I added a bunch of h2o2. Should be less salty and relatively sterile. Just have to buffer with some calmag.

Cleaning coco is a major f'n pita. I don't have a city drain, so no fucking way that silt is getting anywhere near my septic field. I dumped some on some gravel last year and it's still there. So for me, I have to rinse, strain, scoop, discard, dry, vaccuum, discard, rinse, etc, etc.

Buying a $15 sack of prewashed, prebuffered seems really attractive. But wasteful. Summer with a hose will be a little easier.

Poppin beans tonight or tomorrow. Thinking Pink Panama + Super Orange Haze (loved SODK, love haze).

I have two more (from a different store) bags of Detroit Water Only. I'm gonna give it another whirl either simultaneously or mid-run. Will pre-treat it a little differently (mix in some bti bits, neem meal). I'd really like to try Biotabs, but that shipping.... not sustainable.
