Mephisto Genetics White Crack and Kis Organics Soil

Good news everyone! My second Grape Rolex popped open snd has a nice tail now. She was planted less than 24 hours ago and was not opened, the direct planted seed is trying to pop out of the soil. I predict she will be up by this evening? Glad the 2nd one turned on the gas and germed once planted. Was nervous for a sec, the other one was planted with a nice tail and the other wasnt opened. Tomorrrow they should both be up. Peacex slow

So I have a decent pocet of Seed Stater soil and its pre-loaded with Mycos, plus I sprinkled some in the hole I dug! The root looked nice and healthy when I planted it. I will go check the temps with my Laser thermometer. But the tent will be in mid 80s, so I am not using my heating mat in there unless the soil is not warm enough. I have the seed that I planted in cup on the heating mat for a day or 2 because that seed wasnt open yet. Want to make sure the soil is nice and warm, so I set the thermostat at 85F for heating mat and its in my black tote. Will move to tent if/when it pops up. I predict the directly planted seed will be above ground quickly and do very well. I filled my Rez up and sprayed my layers of Soil with Water/Orca as I loaded the Juniors this morning. I will assume that I wont have to add water for a good 5 days or more starting directly. However, I also predict that the plant will do better than transplanted. The food will be directly available as the seedling grows, vs potentially starving your seedling in Starter Soil if left too long. I didnt have the convinient Starter tents that I have currently, until a werk or so ago. So I wi be able to start seeds directly 100% of the time moving forward. Like you said, if your temps are warm enough and you have the space....direct planting should be far superior for many reasons...plus no trsnsplant isses to deal with ever. Win Win. I am even hoping that a nice direct start will make the total grow time to be a fast as possible. Any stress, rootbounding, transplant issues can potentially extend growz. I will give my unopened Grape Rolex 3 days to pop up and if not I will put a Diesel cookies in water to replace it. But lets hope it germs. Thanks for the support, slow
Hot damn sounds good. If I 'paper towel method' a seed before planting, and my soil is 75'F, I see sprouts in about 48 hours or a little less. At 70'F, I takes an extra day. If I just direct plant a seed, straight from the pack, and the soil is 75'F, I usually see a sprout in 72 hours.
When you get a chance, pick up a thermometer with a probe end, like the little dial type used in cooking. Its way more accurate than using an infrared heat gun, which only measures the surface. With lights shining on the surface it will always read a little high.
Great work!

Hey @OrganicSinse, my 2x4 starter tent is running about 81F. I have a couple thermometers and I also use my infrared to see hot/cold spots. I see the directly planted seedling is almost up now. The shell is off. I have a little dome over it thst is clear, so I can see whats going on. Once she is up and stable a little I will cover the hole around the stem up a little for now. Once the stem grows, I will put my Pool Noodle collar on it. I cut some super thin slices for seedlings and will top with a thicker slice of pool noodle and tape it down after about 10-14 days. I prefer to be proactive about pest prevention. Some may think its overkill, but thats ok. Will take pics tomorrow of seedlings, should be day 1 for both. I have my rotation started nicely now and will start soaking 2 more seeds in 10 more days. Every 2 weeks I will start soaking new seeds, its been a few days since I soaked these 2. Peace, slow

Sounds like a winner my friend!

I now have capability of doing direct start in Junior @Organic Sinse suggests but once again I’ll probably go against the grain and sow seed into soil, no paper towel germ - I do direct plant with just raw seed as I’d do now with the RootMakers ......

My concern is the wonderful root mass the RootMaker forms as the roots grow and get pruned .... I feel the pruned root system is ideal for the Junior ..... but mind is open, I’ll give it a go.

This is what I was doing before I got sidetracked. 12g tote, couple sections of drain tube wrapped in a sock at the bottom, pvc filler tube. Cut the lid in half, make a couple holes, done. If I stuck with the Jr's, I'd probably end up designing a cap for the top, and a plug for the drain on my 3d printer.

As a guy who's been in tech for a looooooong time, don't get me started on Apple. It's 85.2% branding, 14.8% "quality" ;)

Harvest time approaches for my 2 organic girls. Maybe this week. I've been plucking troubled leaves all along, one of them is a little sparse but stacking nicely. The other one still has most of her leaves, a cute pink double bud top, but smaller buds. The gnats are nearly gone (probably gone, would have to switch out traps to verify but I'm in the harvest windows so it's almost pointless). Haven't seen a thrip in a while and I've been smackin leaves.

Got a little veg tent setup over the weekend, getting ready to start a new run this week of some new Meph sativas. Still wavering on coco/organic. Part of me says go coco/sterile and sprinkle in some organic grows. Part of me says fuck it, run the same soil+amendments I have left.

Pretty sure my next run won't be in a Jr or a Grobucket. Been there, done that -- got the yellow sticky traps as proof, lol. Gonna either try open top 5g organic fabric, or finish up my SIP tote running open top.

Not sure, have a couple weeks to sort it out.

If you run soil and give it another try just use the Junior and double bag the top - Just get a heavy 4 mil trash bag, kind construction crews use, and make a second shower cap that folds easily and all should be fine - the shower cap really does prevent life cycle of gnats - I have now successfully grown 4 in earthboxes with a fifth coming along and no bug issues, zero ....

I also have worms bins in the same basement grow area but the bins are covered too ...... when I get into trouble is when worm bin covers are left open like I did when I first started composting well, before I grew our plant so I learned that lesson early ....

Believe your issue was the global bucket and too much moisture and the open top .....

As @slowandeasy stated the taste and quality is second to none - IMO LOS is well worth a second try!

Peace,
MOB

I believe the soil was tainted and just to be safe I wouldnt use the same stuff personally. Adding a screen to the overflow and a 2nd cap would def keep the pests out. I would even the 2nd cover down to be sure. If you have gnats, the life cycle should be broken if you cant get in OR out. However an open bucket or rez can harbor them with just standing water. You can get pest in any medium or hydro, but if they cant reproduce they will not take over so easily or at all.

I'm a slow learner. I have 2 brand new spankin bags of dirt (same brand, different store) + 3/4 bag of ancient forest + 3/4 bag of EWC left. I'm gonna run it again :p

Since I'm doing a full reset, everything will be in veg at the same time. I can hit the soil with BTi regularly (going to use microbelift and no mosquito bits this time) and a drench or two with spinosad if needed. Going to try and stay in front this time instead of playing catch up.

5 gallon fabric pots + cover crop seed mix + straw. Aggressive top dressing weekly + AACT/Recharge alternating. Top water, no SIP this time -- find the water groove by pot weight.

I was looking at Roots Organics dry ferts, I like the diversity of inputs -vs- the Dr Earth I have now. Maybe down the road. It's all the same shit but different.

The Roots Organics feeding schedule is interesting though. Might loosely model my feed schedule based on it.

Good luck. Not sure I undestand leaving an open pot if you are struggling with pests, but thats your call. You will be more prepared from the beginning, I hope you dont have any in the unopened soil. Tske care, slow

Good luck. Not sure I undestand leaving an open pot if you are struggling with pests, but thats your call.

Reasons:

- That cover can suck it, lol :p :D
- No need to seal every crack
- I can just add a couple drops of whatever while watering... every water if necessary with near zero incremental effort
- I bought the cover crop seeds, almost have to plant them someplace
- Better integration/saturation /watering of my top dresses, since they always get watered in by design -vs- cover dripping/wicking (The cover is probably sufficient, but in my single grow -- that alfalfa green that I top dressed 4+ weeks ago.... Still there, still staining the wet cover green.) Maybe it matters, maybe it doesn't. But extra water flowing through the top dress can't hurt.
- Wanna add recharge on a whim? Stir 'n hit 'em all. Net extra time?: 30 seconds.

If I haven't circled back to the Jr's before summer, maybe I'll toss 'em onto the deck and try tomatoes or something. I haven't ruled them out, yet.... Maybe open top will show me the error of my ways.
