Mephisto Genetics White Crack and Kis Organics Soil

I always say yes to worms, but no not needed. If you apply worm castings, there is a good chance you will have a cocoon or 2 in there, and they will supply a few worms. There should be plenty of life in the soil without worms.
I run wicking setups a little differently. I don’t feel they work well with just bottom watering (unless they are real short). It’s super important to keep the layer of soil just below the surface moist. It’s where the most life is. I top water, and let the run off flow into the res. Then if I think I need more water in the res, I add some more.
I start with just a thin layer of water in the res when plants are small. The thin layer should just about disappear in a day. Then I just maintain that, in between top watering.
With a fresh sprout in a 10 gal, I won’t top water for around a week, and just maintain the thin layer in the res. By keeping the layer thin, it will help you control accidental overwatering of a young plant.
When plants get big, I top water more often, and maintain a deeper water level in the res.
Another option to top watering is misting the soil. But it’s way more work.
After ya make your first run in this soil, remind me and I will gladly help guide ya thru either a notill cycle, or recycle/reamending with this soil.

Cheers
Os
Have any of you guys thought about a semi auto watering set up to make multiple small waterings during the day to keep the upper soil/media layers moisture levels more optimal for both microbes and worms? I know it sounds sorta OCD, but it's just trying to fully optimize a living earth grow.

OK good start ......

Do you have any shredded leaves or straw under the plastic?

Is there condensation on underside of plastic? VERY IMPORTANT auto have condensation on underside, do you have? If NO then spray underside of plastic as needed, check at least twice daily at the start.

Fill reservoir to top, you want wicking action right away .....no worries about being overwatered .... when I grew Sam I had this moisture meter in EarthBox and it showed constant 100-110 millibars- EXACTLY what Tad recommends https://www.kisorganics.com/products/digital-moisture-meter

Uncover water fill hole, you want humidity now so no hurt if a little water evaporates!
With just being an outdoor organic farmer(not gardener) since the late 80's, I've got what might seem a dumb question. Is the cover being used for two reasons, keeping moisture in the grow medium and for keeping the humidity down in the grow room to mainly ambient humidity and transpiration from the plant?

I'm a indoor and cannabis grower virgin, but due to worsening of my injuries from my military service and the VA and other docs just want to throw opiates and other crap at me, I need to grow my own medicine. This is the only way I KNOW what is going into my medicine.

I've read your Sam's Crack grow and was impressed with your utilization of sound and well tested organic techniques and how you applied them to an indoor grow. The killer results speak for themselves! I do know one thing. Since I sold my farm, operation and downsized, I have to start a worm bed again!..................and learn how to make compost on a small scale. LOL!

earthbox has an auto water system available but myself I visited the tent often and topped off water every visit ..... More hoses and gadgets are not my cup of tea and I like to provide personalized service for all my ladies!

Why thank WildBill ...... I too like you have lots of outdoor experience but limited indoor ....... Did some reading and put 2 and 2 together and grew Sam, thanks again for noting ...

Slow simply followed a few tips and purchased the correct soil and is using a SIP Container ..... So at first don’t over complicate, just follow Slows moves or PM me for help if you like .....

The EarthBox cover offers a few things ...... It does help lower humidity but during veg cycle you want more humidity so that’s not the reason although in flower it certainly helps keep humidity down ...... It does help conserve water but that not an issue for some ..... It’s main reason , IMO, is to help with condensation and drip taking your top dressings down into the soil and help keep soil perfectly moist ....... Every time I looked under the plastic cap I noted condensation and then when I lifted my mulch there were my buddies, the worms, eating the mulch and top dressings .....

Good luck with your grow!

With the advice of Tad from Kis, I decided to NOT add worms. But used EWC. Eventually you may get some live worms. But I didn't put any in my soil. So I will top dress with 1/2 cup EWC tonight. I don't have a cover crop or straw. Just the plastic mulch cover. This is a test to see what the most Minimal Intervention to the Plants. I will know what to expect at minimum. I don't have a worm Bin and I won't be buying any worms. But I am certain that they help to enrich the soil and health of the plant. Peacez slowandeasy

Day 32. My camera, not iPhone. Sorry. But you get the idea. I do a little cane moving after this pic. She is really filling out ! I can tell she is preparing to flower she's got the look. I will be moving her over about 6 inches tomorrow, to get her away from the side of the tent. Very Healthy, I'm happy Peace slowandeasy
