man i tell ya,i have soooo much mixed in one spot right now just cooking away,i think the zombie reign will incur before i use mine too.lmfao!!i saw steam n heat plumes coming off the cooking pile this morning.gotta love it!!i think i have around 120 gallons er so with all my higher end soils.80+ cooking right now too.cant wait to use my newest batch in a few weeks.

I have a quick question i guess.i know we have an organics section n that rocks ofcourse.but what about maybe a dedicated thread just to discuss tlo and its items and used as an organic teaching method?eh,just an idea..food fer thought maybe.

Im getting my wormy dudes farm woo hoo.now i can finally make my living vermicompost type of teas n feeds ive been reading about.that'll rock."afn smoke out"

yesss please!!

Glad U got them Directed...
Have fun fellas

Hey guys, was wondering if I could get some feedback on a mix?
Had some low pH problems last batch so started from scratch another recipe I thought of and had access to goodies.
Tried to cover all my bases! And all organic of course :]

The plan was to have it be enough for approx. 60 gallons of medium, about 220-230l total.
It fits nicely into two 30gal trashcans, I think if wet it would be a little less.

2 bags FF Happy Frog (56.6l)
1 bag FF Ocean Forest (42.5l)
1 bag Alaskan Humisoil (15l)
1 bag Roots Organic "Marine Green" Compost (28.3l) [0.5 - 0.1 - 0.1 + 3%Ca]
1 bag EWC (20l)

and to that I added

0.5cup Mexican Bat Guano [10 - 1 - 1]
1c. Peruvian Seabird Guano [12 - 11 - 2]
2c. Jamacian Bat Guano [0 - 10 - 0]
2c. Indonesian Bat Guano [0 - 7 - 0]
8c. Down to Earth's Bio-Live [5 - 4 - 2]
8c. Alfalfa Meal [2.5 - 1 - 1]
4c. Kelp Meal [1 - 0.1 - 2]
4c. Oyster Shell [35% Ca]
4c. Soft Rock Phosphate [0 - 2 - 0 + Ca 16%]
4c. Langbeinite [0 - 0 - 22 + 10.8%Mg + 22.8%S]
2c. Azomite a.k.a. Glacial Rock Dust [micro nutes + 4%Ca + 1.2%Mg]
2c. Greensand

This mix should be plenty capable of heavy-feeding when fully cooked (This will not be used for 2-3 months cooking time) which was the plan/goal.
The two components I am most concerned about are pH of the soil, and Ca/Mg levels as I use LEDs.
Both the Bio-Live and Langbeinite were new products from the Down to Earth amendment group that I hadn't seen
but man were they tempting to give a shot so I thought I would.
Bio-Live is mainly crab and other sea stuff, can't remember the full ingredient list haha and
Langbeinite I also wanted to try, being something like Potash of magnesia sulfate, but anyway comprised of those nutes no matter which way the correct name is said :D (K/Mg/S)
And the EWC+Marine Green makes the mix about 20% compost which sounded.. er, healthy might be the word I'm looking for?.. to me haha

I'll be giving teas every 2-4 waters with the mix to keep soil activity healthy, which I am just beginning and has felt good to learn!

I think once it shrinks down a little I'll add 20l perlite and see where that leaves me volume-wise, though I have to say it feels really good so far but
I guess I think more should help
Thanks for the read and any input! It is all welcomed and appreciated, from criticisms to compliments, cheers friends"uuuuggghhhh.."

are the guanos as much or more than last time as far as per volume??im tired atm but ill take a look at yer very involved mix later today.but right from the top id say ya got too much guano n yer soil is not buffering right if yer answer is yes..Take it easy buddy. Gonna go burn me a dragon bowl baby!LOL!L8rz.Good job on the mix too btw man.

I just looked at it again for a quick look.if yer making a 60 gallon mix with the soils thats waaaay too much guano.ill get back to ya later.sorry.still a killer job on the soil.just needs alittle fine tuning imho man.but waay to high n tired to get into atm.be good buddy.:pass::Riding the Dragon:

Hey but thank you so much!
And guanos same as last time, yep

Always appreciate it, friend

Hey redd, I don't see anything in your mix for aeration. I'm assuming the Fox Farm stuff has some (I don't know, never used it) but even with that I think your gonna need more. Should be anywhere from 20-30% of your mix. Perlite, pumice, rice hulls, buckwheat hulls all work well. Aeration is super important in TLO mixes. There is so much biological activity going on and all those micros need lots of air.

Since, as it looks to me, your mix totals to about 165 liters and you say you need 220, if you add like 50-60 liters of aeration then you should be golden.

That sounds really good, thank you! You're right it could defo use more aeration than just what came in the Fox Farms bags.
Plus, your suggestion would put me at the quantity I was after. This coming weekend I'll make a big batch of Tea just
for the soil, so when I dump it out to mix in more perlite I can give it the micro-boost. Two birds one stone!
:Sharing One:
