Lighting The new DIY Section

Yes I need me a meanwell driver a buddy to me get one and I could run up to 12 lights from it of I needed to but I'm only going use 6 so what size would u recommend..I'm going try get away from running so many wires.is all I'm trying do I guess I'll just have to zip tie them up out of the way..But I can tell a big difference in the size of the plants using cobs over LED and I think that they veg a little longer under the cobs maybe I'm crazy but don't think so on this one.

It depends on which cobs you have. As for running 12 lights on a single driver that’s dangerous. The standard holders we use are rated for a max of 350v, 9 cobs. Series would have half as many wires as running in paralell. Still need to connect cob to cob though.

I prefer the citizens over the cree 3590’s myself. I’m running the 50v 1812 citizens. For the cree’s a hlg-185-1400 would run 4 wired in series. For veg and flower the 3500k seems to be the best fit. As for cri it is impossible to see any noticeable difference between the two. Buuuut there was one grow where the guy did substantially better with the 90 cri so that’s what everyone wants now.
thank you thats all good info i just used the cree as an example not sure which brand to use. when it comes to different cobs say a cree cxb3590 / vero 29 / citizen 1812 would the same driver run all these or do they have different values i would need to match to a driver

You would use a hlg-320h-c1400 A or B, the a has a built in dimmer, the b needs a potentiometer to dim. You did get the ideal holders correct?

Yes all of these have different forward voltages. Amps X Volts =watts. So you can see where a different voltage would affect the final wattage. First figure the desired wattage and find the cob you want then choose a driver based on these numbers.

thanks for the help @BigSm0 this is the list iv made up so far
4 citizen clu048 1212c4 3k color temp
reflectors and holders to match
four 120/140x 80mm pin style heatsinks
meanwell hlg240- c1400b
and of course wires connectors etc

What is the exact part number? Cannot tell if they are version 5 or version 6. I would absolutely skip the version 5’s. That driver is also bigger than you need. You can use a hlg-185-1400 for 4-1212’s for 4-1812’s or 1818’s you would use the 240-1050

Yes I got the ideal holder and that way I don't need no reflectors and I'm more less experimenting with the lights until I find the sweet spot because different strains I've noticed likes the light close and others like it further away for a example I've got a stilton special it likes it further away and I've got a sky walker seems like it closer but each to own..But the way I've got them now I have keep all same height and I'm not happy like that but I can see big difference in the cobs verse the LED cobs seem to make them get busher and seem the stems are tougher the down side I've saw is I can't give them enough calmag they really go through it with the cobs and also I think it gives them better uptake of nutrients..

CLU048-1212C4-303H6M3-F1 i made sure that they are the gen 6 . would i be right in saying that i could still use the bigger driver with the output of 250w even if i only need the 200w output of the HLG 185 its only a few euro extra and gives me some room to expand if i ever wanted to

Good call on the upgrade. Yes that’s correct.
