New Grower Sweet Seeds - First LED Run!

Thanks a million Nuteburn. I'm always happy to help, especially those who learn from it and are happy to have it. PM me any time brother.

Day 35

This one is gonna be lovely I can feel it in me bones! 26" tall now and not grown upwards since yesterday, so I think she's ready to get her flower on. Nice strong side branching and she's getting pinks and reds all over her. Especially the undersides of the leaves. Pistils have a creamy-pink hue. I upped the feed to 2ml/l Sensi Grow A&B, 1ml/l each of Voodoo Juice, CalMag, Big Bud & also threw in 2 teaspoons of Meridian Organic Molasses for good measure. Here she is:

Now this next girl is about a week behind i'd say. She's also 26" and still stretching I think. She's on half-strength feed to her sister and has more of an open structure to her. She's a bit of a fussy cow actually. Burns like a vampire in holy water. Ah well, up and up she goes! We'll see how she does. Here is her top:

And a group shot:
Notice you can differentiate between the different spectrums from my LEDs - the one on the right (Apollo 6) has more of the red spectrum, whilst the one on the left (Apollo 4) has more of a blue/white spectrum.

I've noticed that the drier my pots/soil get, the less the RH is in the tent. A lot less. I watered them today around 2pm and went to check on them at 5pm and the RH was 98% in the dark! No condensation this time though. The condensation starts when the lights come on, and the tent heats up. So taking advice from the very helpful Happy Horticulturist, I have set my central heating to come on for around 2 hrs during the start of the dark period for the plants so that the temparature transition is more gradual. Hopefully this will stop any drippy tents whilst the pots/soil is moist. Can't wait to take delivery of my dehumidifier!

Peace

Full update to come tomorrow at some point! In the meantime, here is a sneak-peek:

Day 39

I'm fighting a losing battle against the dreaded condensation! I've got the dehumidifier running 24/7 and it's definitely doing it's job, but after each watering i'm seeing the RH rise up to over 75% and still getting a few drippy walls on the tent, although it's not as bad as before. I've tried to balance out the temps for lights on/off by setting my heating to come on when the lights go out, and the difference is less than 10 degrees now. I guess they are just a pair of proper sweaty ladies! The next weapon in my arsenal is silica gel, which is on order right now.

This one is getting fatter by the day - still at 27.5" tall and not growing any more. Starting to get some frost too!
She's a stunner:

This one is getting lanky, currently at a lofty 30" tall. Big bird. She's skinny and behind her sister in flowering terms. She's now on full strength feed along with her sister and seems to like it!

They look great, NB! Question: Where in the grow area are you keeping your RH meter? If you're watering/feeding to runoff, and the meter is on the floor, it may be giving a higher reading. Also, do you let the runoff stay in the pot tray? I noticed my RH way spiking, and I started sponging out the trays after watering, to remove the runoff. Dropped my RH spikes by more than 10%.
Best to you, Dude!

Hi Waxi, cheers for looking in man!

I'm taking readings from canopy level and also above my lights (actually the hygrometer is sat on top of one of the LED units). Interestingly, the meter above the LED always gives a higher reading for RH. There is approximately a 5-7% difference between the readings. I always mop up the run-off, as I originally thought that this was the issue but it seems not!! If I open my tent slightly and let the moist air out, the RH drops around 10% alsmost instantly. This makes me think the extraction is not up to the job? Maybe...

Hope I can get the RH down - I really don't want any rot!!

All the best pal,

Peace
NB

What are you using for an extraction fan? I went back to the thread start, but didn't see it listed. You may be right. It may well be the lack of extraction. What is the RH of the room outside the tent?
And, my RH is always higher at the top of the grow area. I reckon its "steam rises.." lol
At my place, the RH has been 20-25% for a month outdoors-except for rain days.. I have to keep a music store sized humidifier in my grow room, and I'm lucky to go over 60%...
If the room RH is "normal", then lets look at the extraction fan specs. If the room RH is high, it might be that the outside of the tent needs dehumidifying.
two pennies.... for the former "one fat cotyledon".... lololol

Haha! One FAT cotyledon!! Classic.

My extraction fan is a Black Orchid Axial Flow 100 (4")

These are the stats:
105 M3/Hour
62 CFM

My tent is 60cm x 60cm x 150cm

You're dead right on the "steam rises" idea - explains the difference in readings! The RH in the room is always round about 40-55% depending on the weather, so that's not too bad really

I'm wondering if that extraction fan is underpowered, particularly since your room RH isn't high. The difference between my outside (room) RH and tent/closet RH is only 7-10%, which I attribute to my extraction fan pulling a lot of room air into the enclosures. My fan is rated at 280 cfm, so its pulling a shiteload into the enclosures..
