Thankyou Bailey,
All the stories got me thinking of a beagle that taught me so much about our relationships, and this story kinda made me feel a little more at peace with it. Arthur is in my will, and the family knows were he goes if something happens to me. @ some point, we will be reunited, as the final instructions are that our ashes are to be mixed and scattered together.

Friends,

After reading thru alot of these posts last night, some remembering fuzzy friends of the past, missing a great companion...I've had several dogs thru my life, and always dread the heartbreaking goodby that comes with living and loving a creature with such a short (compared with us) lifespan. Lamenting @ god at the unfairness of it all.

Years ago, I read a story, and was driven to go find it to share with ya'll. This is it below, truth speaks.

"Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker’s death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation. He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life – like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?”

The six-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”"

Got me right in the feels!

Caught me getting out of my car, I wasn't paying attention, to concerned about what I was doing in the store. Guy came up behind and pushed me into the door jam and said let me pet your dog... A was having none of it, and sent him for stitches instead. My fault, gaurd was down. My california instincts were on vacation. That's what happens when you become comfortable in a small town, with decent folks, you get to complicit.

My long coated Chihuahua is approaching 9 yrs old ... over the past year we noticed her slowing down and losing some of the bounce in her step ... started her on Cosequin about a month ago and the difference was noticeable from about the second week ... she's more confident too ...
