24 Carat x Stone Dragon - Day 69 - Pheno #1 and #3:

The working name for this mashup is Sleeping Dragon, a bit of wishful thinking. Today is day 69 for these girls. They have been trouble-free grow. They take nutes well, even when I was aggressively feeding them. They are smallish and squat/dense, so they benefit from some LST and defoliation to open them up to air and light. The colas on both of them are tight, not rock-hard, but still dense. I expect that they will produce 25-35 grams each after drying based on my previous grows.

It appears as though I have several phenos as well. One pheno has much purpling of the actual bud, and the top of the buds are more rounded. The second pheno seems to have a more christmas tree-like shape, and the buds are not rounded but instead they come to a point. This second pheno does have some coloring starting on the sugar leaves, but it is more green then the other pheno. It also has a more consistent covering of trichomes making it seem as though she is as much white as she is green. The general characteristics of these plants are very similar otherwise. They have approximately the same height and branching structure.

They key for this mashup will come sometime in April when we see if she lives up to her working name, Sleeping Dragon. Does she put me to sleep, and does she keep me asleep? Those questions will be answered in the Spring. Enjoy the pictures. I think she is 10-15 days left before chop.

Bluestone #1 - Chop Day - Day 80

Learned a very valuable lesson with this round of plants and pollen chucking. No matter how careful you are, when you are dealing with male pollen, there is always a chance of unintentional pollination. This Bluestone #1 is a prime example. Somehow, she got a bit of pollen even though she was isolated from the male and the intended female recipient, and has produced about 40+ seeds. I think that it may have been on my clothing, and while I didn't go directly from one cabinet to another, I did go from the breeding cab to the flowering cab after ~45-60 minute delay. I assume it was on my clothing and still viable. The timing seems right as most of the seeds look mature and if I look back at my records to see when I was collecting pollen, that would be between 5-6 weeks ago. Oh well, collect them, let them dry and look through what I have at a later point. Just a bit put off by the fact that this Bluestone is not sensimillia grade.

So the chop is done, been drying in brown paper bags for almost 3 days, by the feel of the buds I think 1 more day before I moved the buds to a glass jar to begin curing. The environment is extremely dry and all my humidity gauges are reading between 15% - 18% rh. She has a really strong blueberry/berry weed odor, and it is strong and permeates throughout the area she occupies. I guess my LST was not enough as quite a bit of the lowers and inside buds were leafy and unformed. They went to my trim pile and will be turned into either kief and GD tincture later this spring. Wet weight of the remaining buds put the estimated dry weight at ~28 grams. Actual dry weight will come in the next several days. Now to the pictures...

Stone Dragon x 24 Carat - #1 and #3 - Day 80 - Chop Day

So, the winter growing season (for me) is coming to an end. These two plants, Stone Dragon x 24 Carat, were my first run of seeds produced in the late spring of 2019. While I haven't grown many of the parent strains, the timing I decided on for chop was based on what I did glean from previous runs of the parent strains. I would have liked to have taken them at different harvest points, but I believe I had several different pheno's so I wanted to compare apples to apples (so to speak). So I settled on 80 days. Both these plants took nute feedings and didn't skip a beat, or show any sign of overfeeding. Feedings as flowering started were done with MegaCrop 3 grams, 1 gram of Bud Explosion, ph'ed to 6.2 - 6.3, with a ppm reading between 500-550.

Yields were a bit less then I wanted to see or then I expected. Both pheno's were at or just under 28 grams (estimated dry weight). Pheno #3, the more purple of the two plants and my personal favorite, was underwhelming with the estimated dry weight at ~22grams, (in a square 1 gallon pot with no LST). Main buds were dense and solid, and she definitely had a fruity smell. Lots of trim from sugar leaves, which will be used to make my first GDT.

Pheno #1 faired a bit better, yielding and estimated dry weight of 28 grams. While she had some purpling of the sugar leaves, she was a green pheno for sure. Had the airpot to herself after the other occupant of the airpot showed his male bits at ~day 29) and with most of the inner buds being very light green and not dense. It needed better LST then I applied, but being such a squat indica plant (barely reaching 12" in height), she was difficult to LST, most likely because I started a bit later then I should have. But the proof will be in the smoke ( or in my case, the capsules). Now onto the pictures...
