Lighting Planning for a DIY COB build

Got the lights up and running. Still some small things that I'll get to eventually but it's working. Thanks to @BigSm0 for all the help and for the quick shipping of the cobs. Let's see what these babies can do.

Thanks to @Z_Bop as well for all your help bud!

Great job! I just started my non-journalled COB grow and I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing about yours as well!

That looks awesome pal, happy and productive growing with it [emoji106] all this potential meters and that is way over my head lol so well done !!!!!!
It's nothing too hard. Potentiometer is a variable resistor. Rotary dial....like the volume knob on an electric guitar or bass. The driver has a pair of leads that has to be attached to it to function the dimming feature on the Mean Well B series drivers. Just gotta do some research, because pretty much all COBs are DIY lights unless you want to spend a grand or more, with the exception of the Autocob, and that new COB from Mars Hydro with a Cree light and Mean Well driver. The dude @ CobKits.com has "Light Engines" which are a lot like Autocobs, and everything from T.I.M. to heatsinks to WAGO connectors to COBs to Mean Well drivers. We need a few more one stop shops. Even COBs themselves can be VERY DIFFICULT just to buy. It took me 2 weeks to order TWO, and I knew exactly what I wanted....they are just out of stock everywhere, which is only like 4 places. The hardest thing about COBs is sourcing all the pieces and parts, and finding a spot that has everything in stock when you need it. The wiring is cake and building a simple frame is pretty simple, if you have access to a drill. I'm pretty sure that 90% or more of the members here could pull it off, and have a solid light, some just do it cleaner than others. Jump on in if ya feel the pull, plenty of KNOWLEDAGABLE help around here to get you set up and running in no time.

That was super fast Raoul. It's nice to hear about quick shipping even more so when it's to another country. The light looks amazing! Great job. I know you spent plenty of time sorting things out and planning so it's nice to see it all setup.

I'm with you for the most part. DIY for me was more for fun and to build what I couldn't buy. That's the only reason I do what I do now. Cost of a cob and cost of a 1/2 oz isn't to far off. I have had plenty of branches that can pay for a light on their own. I think making your own nutrients is more economical in the end.

The excitement of building the light got the better of me and I basically spent all my time planning so when I did build it, it was pretty much like putting a Lego set together with instructions.

Me and my buddy were thinking about going that route with the high end custom noots. He was liking Canna, but wasn't getting along with the A+B for flower because of the high N content, and actually had a touch of N tox. I'm with you on the sheer fun of building a light that is on the cutting edge of technology, doesn't break the bank, is INFINITELY modular and expandable, lasts forever, and c'mon....these things are a joke in your hand. The size of a penny that produces ridiculous PAR watts, and is just amazing....then you light it up and realize what all the fuss is about. Even with cheap 600mA China no-name drivers, these things shine.....then run a 1050 Meanie through em and it's like "Ahhh.....yes". I busted out the razor blade and did a wee bit of trimming on the BJB where the "posts" are that go through the cob holes. Well, mine were actually rocking on the posts and lifting up on the other corners where DC power is going. Not good. A .001" trim made the cob sit ROCK SOLID in the holder. Dealing with one of my older cobs that made my lights go dark, and that was the problem there as well. Not all of em have this issue as I have seen, so check your connections twice kiddies, and make sure the cob sits firmly on the metal power tabs.
