New Grower Northern Lights Auto Flower Grow

Thanks @LedGuy74 for answering the water and carbon filter question as well as the light question above.

I think im just going to grow with the current set up and get an additional light down the road like you recommended.

Day 3

Its going to be a hot one today- 95 degrees outside which means my condo unit will get to well over 100 so im working with an AC to lower the temp of the unit as well as frozen ice packs, bowls of ice, and a small fan to bring down the room temps a bit. Im currently at 78.1F and 55% humidity.

Not much is going on. Just waiting for the leafs to pop up above soil.

I think I see the seed about to break the soil though so the leafs should come very soon.

@LedGuy74

In a prior post you said this is a good carbon filter.

I actually saw that same model the other day but closed it out since it *looks* like that attaches to an exhaust hose that I do not have.

Can I just stick this carbon filter on the grow room floor if I do not connect it to the exhaust?

You need to connect it to the exhaust. It doesn’t require a hose it requires 4” ducting and a few 4” clamps... which is like a whopping 10-15$ at a Lowe’s or Home Depot. Definitely need it though he’ll you can buy the ducting online with the fan and filter. But you need a 4” inline fan with the filter. The 195CFM vivosun works fine.

All you do is mount the carbon filter inside the tent then attach the ducting to the filter via the clamp then run the other side of the ducting to the inline fan and attach it with another clamp. Then for the backend of the inline fan that is blowing the air out you want to attach another piece of ducting (it can be a couple feet cut from the ducting connecting the fan and filter. Then you just vent the exhaust to go outside of the grow area. You can get away with not using ducting on the backend of the inline if you get creative though but I personally do use a couple feet in the backend.

What happens is the inline fan creates enough pressure for the air to get pulled into the filter which in turn the carbon gets rid of the smell and then the air comes up through the inline and out the exhaust. Without pressure it’s pretty useless lol just a paperweight which is why the ducting is required along with the inline fan. A 4” 195CFM vivosun in-line fan is 28$ on Amazon and the filter is like 30-40$ so it’s definitely worth it. You don’t want people smelling your grow.

Keep in mind since you are in a micro grow you may need to reverse it... it’s not recommended but it works fine...

So you want ducting running to the grow area then you want the fan pulling air out of the grow area INTO the filter which can be set on the floor behind the grow box for example. Hopefully you understand. This would require the same amount of ducting just installed the opposite way compared to the first way I mentioned doing it.

Thanks for the explanation - I will make a note and get the carbon filter if this plant gets stinky.

Keep in mind even a small plant can stink to high heaven. I had a small-medium plant that I ran without a filter and man mid to late flower it would smell 20 feet outside the home at peak hours and the rest of the time it would linger right outside the home.

So if having an intense smell is an issue be sure to purchase you a filter around bloom time. I’ve seen people wait or attempt to make their own filter and end up being forced to throw their plants out for their own safety after spending all that time and money.

OK I can start prepping this now then @LedGuy74 . If I need it, I have it. If I dont need it, I will probably need it with grow [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG]

So, I would need BOTH the carbon filter we both linked to as well as this fan that you linked to correct?

Put the carbon filter on the 4in hose w/ the 4in clamp and then connect it all to that fan so it goes like....

fan connected to hose which is connected to the filter which is then connected to another hose correct?

Day 3 update

I see the seed at the surface of soil now.

The seed is split open 60-70% of the way and I think I see one little leaf outside of the shell but the leaf appears to be sitting on the soil

Should I turn my light on now or wait until I see the seed fall off and both leafs above the soil?

in a small space using one of the bottom methods is best.
