The light itself has 2 exhaust fans that are blowing out the top of the cabinet. I also have another small fan that i bought to blow on the plant to help with its strength - that fan can also be used to suck new air in or blow hot air out depending on the position of the fan.
The cabinet is also not air/light tight so there is places where air can circulate.
I have nothing for smell control - the grow room is in an unused bedroom so if it stinks a little bit, no biggie. If it starts getting super stinky I can buy some carbon stuff down the road.
Ah ok that makes sense, just watch the temps as they go further into it's life and make sure it doesn't get burn. I made the mistake of putting too much light into my grow tent and it fried a couple plants.
I'm gonna be blunt, you'll go noseblind and won't smell it but the whole house will smell like it. The only strain I ever grew that didn't smell enough for a carbon filter was Dutch passion autoduck.
I tried not using a carbon filter and while I live in a legal state to grow, it still is like having a big sign plastered on your door "I'm growing weed, Rob my house please". And if you have nosey neighbours (pardon the pun) it could be game over.
All that said, I'm excited to share the journey you are going on. I'm still not a perfect grower and you probably will succeed more than me on your first grow (my first ones were so bad they were literally 5 to 6 inches tall but yielded me 7 grams. So even enough for one rocket is a good grow! :smoking:
Question - Once the tap root is formed and I put the seed into the soil, should I put a 20ox bottle over the seed for a "humidity dome" for a couple of days or just put the seed in soil and be done with it?
As
@KREATURE saif, it's more a matter of preference. I put a cut up 16 oz water bottle botrom around it (just cut the bottle in about 2/3 and use the bottom half while it's sprouting and after about day 2 or 3 take it off. I do that because I use rapid rooters and place the seed straight from the breeder pack into the rooter without presoak or the likes. I've had 100% germination with rapid rooters. And because i dont want the rooter to dry out i keep the dome on. I also presoak my soil/grow medium till it's fully wet (about 5 minutes with a hose spraying lightly so as to not lose too many nutrients in the runoff) and let the pot sit for an hour to get to field saturation (the max point of retention of water by the medium without dripping out the bottom.
Just got a digital humidity checker in the mail. Im @ 52% humidity so it looks like I need to increase that a bit prior to the seed being added to the dirt later 2night or 2mar.
It also has a digital thermometer and that is saying 78 degrees which is a bit cooler than my older thermometer.
This new thermometer/humidty checker thing I got has a probe thingy for "outside" temp/humidity - could I just stick that in the dirt to get a reading of the dirt as well?
I'm a bit less worried about humidity/temps but I probably should be. My figuring is that some are grown in tropics with humidity, some such as Afghan derived strains are used to a harsher climate.
The hard part about planting is to not dig at the root to see if it's sprouted. That can stunt the plant (another reason my first grows were only 6 inches)
Does the outdoor probe read the ground moisture or just ambient humidity. If it's ambient then your digital temp/humidity metre is sufficent. If you mean one that broadcasts to a central point outside your tent (like I have one that broadcasts to my bedroom weather station) then why not? Then you don't have to keep opening the tent and chancing the possible cornea burn from the light if you check without grow glasses on.
Just be sure to check what I say against otgers, I have some bad habits others don't have.
